Season 3 episodes (28)

1 The Sore Winner
1/1/98
Season-only
Since Horace enjoyed winning a few games, he's decided he's not going to play anything anymore unless he's sure he can win. He starts playing tricks on the others in order to win races, contests, etc. And when he does win, he gloats. Pretty soon, no one wants to play with him. Yaya suggests he try playing against himself; his right arm against his left arm. The "solo arm wrestling event" gets underway with Wimzie rooting for the right arm, and Jonas rooting for the left. Their reactions to Horace's arms winning and losing give Horace an object lesson in how to be a good winner. He finds out that winning isn't the only thing; it's how you play the game that counts.
2 To Each His Own
1/1/98
Season-only
The children are doing drawings for a banquet at Graziella's Airline Pilot Association. Horace is especially secretive about his drawing and won't show it to the others. When they finally sneak a look at his work, they see that it is completely abstract with angles, splotches, etc., while theirs are traditional. They tell Horace his work is weird and his feelings are hurt. Angrily, he hides all the paints so they can't continue their own work. Graziella senses that Horace is the culprit. She takes him aside and talks to him about great people of the past - she mentions Stravinsky, the Wright Brothers and van Gogh had their work called "weird," too. Graziella then asks the kids to paint their own version of a storm. The results are all different from one another and interesting in their own way. Soon, the children understand that everyone has something unique to offer and that being different can be a source of pride.
3 The Contest
1/1/98
Season-only
The kids are having a dress-up contest with old clothes from Yaya's steamer trunk. Wimzie is elected judge against her wishes, she'd rather participate. She's about to turn down the job, but each kid privately gives her one of their special toys to get her to vote for them. She now thinks that judging is a pretty good deal, but Yaya makes her realize what she's about to do is dishonest. Besides, how can there be three first-place winners at the same contest? Wimzie then tries to give back the "presents," but the kids won't take them and want her to keep her promise. They want to win. Wimzie eventually comes up with a great solution to the dilemma and makes everyone a winner by giving individual costume prizes for originality, beauty, etc., each prize being the very gift the kids had given her in exchange for voting for them.
4 Please Don't Say That!
1/1/98
Season-only
Wimzie is into saying and calling things "stupid" at a time when the kids are discussing getting an allowance. Wimzie does not get an allowance and asks her parents to give her one. Rousso and Graziella discuss the matter and agree to giving her a small amount every week. But Wimzie is unable to save any since Yaya decides to fine anyone who says "stupid". Eventually, Wimzie doesn't have enough money to buy what she wants from Mrs. Ferris' garage sale. She complains that "stupid" is just a word. But later, she learns a lesson about the power of words when Bo starts using "the word". She realizes that being called "stupid" doesn't feel good, even though Bo had no idea what it meant. Meanwhile, the kids chip in the extra pennies to get Wimzie her favourite object from Mrs. Ferris' sale.
5 Be Yourself
1/1/98
Season-only
Jonas unintentionally ruins everyone's fun by insisting on playing every game by the rules, while Wimzie feels like inventing imaginative (but unscientific) ways to play them. No one wants to pick Jonas on their teams because he spoils the fun. Since Wimzie's way seems to be more popular, Jonas decides to be as silly as her. But he overdoes it and makes a fool of himself. When Wimzie learns that Jonas was acting that way because he wanted to be more like her, she's shocked that she's perceived as being so silly. She then goes to the other extreme and becomes overly serious about everything. Yaya finally puts a stop to all the nonsense with a lesson about being yourself. She demonstrates that it's impossible to change oneself instantly and that it's much better when each person learns to take advantage of their own uniqueness.
6 The Boys Against the Girls
1/1/98
Season-only
The kids get into a spat about who's better; boys or girls. An innocent conversation about fairy tale characters turns into a debate on sexual equality. Yaya tries to explain that women and men are different but equal and can't be compared. To find out who "the weaker sex" is, Jonas suggests some experiments sculpting, whistling, playing statue, etc. The final score is a tie. Taking the conversation as far away as possible from the original gender debate, Yaya explains that winning happens when we do what we like to do and/or because of lots of practice, etc. Rousso and Graziella come in and, unaware of Yaya's efforts, end up fuelling the gender discussion again. Yaya gives up. Eventually, Graziella, Rousso and the kids find themselves trying to settle things with a tug of war, which ends up in a tie when Bo, coached by Yaya, gets the rope undone. Sobered up by the general and undignified fall, and by Yaya's lecture, everyone realizes that trying to make one gender better than the other is futile and that the future lies in celebrating each person's specific talents and possibilities.
7 The Storm
1/1/98
Season-only
At night, a thunderstorm spooks Wimzie. Rousso and Graziella comfort her while Bo just snores away. The next day, Jonas and Horace say the storm didn't scare them. However, Loulou has no problem admitting she was scared and, since more storms are on the rise, she'd rather stay close to Yaya who happens to be baking her "Thunder Cake" designed for kids who are afraid of thunder. One loud crack of thunder later, Loulou's not the only one eating cake. Everyone is scared. Rousso explains that thunder is not dangerous even if it is very loud. To help the kids get used to the loud noise, Rousso brings out his Marching Band bass drum. At first, the kids are shy but soon they end up having fun "making thunder" on Rousso's drum. That night, Wimzie tries to be brave as the storm rages on. Suddenly, a deafening strike of thunder wakes Bo up. Frightened, he starts to cry. To comfort him, Wimzie reminds him the day's lesson on thunder. Eventually, she brings him into her bed where they play a little and fall asleep. The next day, Wimzie realizes that by trying to comfort Bo, she managed to forget her own fear.
8 You Have to Learn the Trade
1/1/98
Season-only
As Wimzie plays with her new favorite toy, a hand puppet called Mr. George, Horace and Loulou are trading personal things between each other. Jonas comes in wearing a great new vest that Wimzie would love to have. She suggests a trade but Jonas will agree to give his vest only in return for Mr. George. No way, says Wimzie. Later, Graziella returns from work with a Pilot-of-the-Year plaque and a model plane of her jet. She gives the plane to Wimzie, as a little present. The plane doesn't knock Wimzie out, so when Jonas offers to trade his vest for the plane, she agrees. But later, she learns that the plane was a special "Mom to daughter" gift and not meant for trading. Wimzie tries to trade the vest back. But Jonas refuses. Ultimately, Wimzie chooses not to hurt her mom's feelings and decides to go for the ultimate sacrifice of trading Mr. George to get the plane back. Graziella is so touched by Wimzie's gesture that she finds a way to comfort her. She gives the plane back to Jonas and gets Mr. George back into Wimzie's arms. Graziella is very happy to settle for being the happiest mom around.
9 Substitute Daddy
1/1/98
Season-only
Horace's dad is away on a two-week business trip. Horace feels sad and misses his father. To help her friend feel better, Wimzie suggests that Rousso be Horace's pretend dad. But after a while, Wimzie becomes jealous, resenting the fact that Rousso spends so much time with Horace. Rousso suspects nothing and continues inviting Horace to stay for the weekend and to the movies (Wimzie can't go since she has a play date) and, to top it off, he even asks him to watch a show he and Wimzie usually watch together. Wimzie ends up cooped up in her room. Yaya figures out what's going on and talks to Rousso who then tries to patch things up. But Horace is the one who comes up with the solution. He offers to leave so that Wimzie can spend some special time with her dad. This simple gesture of friendship defuses the whole situation and Wimzie is more than happy to invite Horace to stay for as long as he wants.
10 Wimzie the Magician
1/1/98
Season-only
Wimzie wants to know how Rousso does his "magic" parlor tricks, but Rousso can't tell her because of the magician's code never to reveal how a trick is done. But if she wants to be a magician, he'll train her. Once she's practiced, Wimzie performs her tricks for her friends. Loulou becomes frightened, thinking that Wimzie is a "real" magician who can turn people into toads and other unpalatable creatures. The only way to convince Loulou otherwise is to show her how the trick is done... but that would mean violating the magician's code. Instead, Wimzie asks Rousso to teach Loulou how to be a magician with another trick of her own. Loulou then learns that performing magic is not some unexplained, scary mystery or witchcraft but the result of skill and talent.
11 The Best Hiding Place on Earth
1/1/98
Season-only
Jonas boasts that his scientific seeking method can find anybody's hiding place. A hide-and-seek challenge is made with Wimzie determined to not to be found. She and Loulou hide in a great hiding place, which Jonas can't find. He refuses to give up and say "uncle". Wimzie and Loulou refuse to come out, determined to foil Jonas' boasts. Graziella and Rousso want to take the kids to a movie and ask Jonas and Horace to round up the girls. Wimzie thinks it's one of Jonas' tricks to get them to reveal themselves and she decides to stay put. The adults are annoyed and then become worried as they suspect that the girls are missing or hurt. Wimzie is scared to come out, afraid that she'll get punished. Finally, she and Loulou do come out, to the relief of her parents who nevertheless chide them for scaring them. The girls don't get to go to the movie. But then, Jonas says he shouldn't go either since he refused to say "uncle" and admit he'd lost the challenge, thereby preventing the girls to understand the game was really over. Nobody goes to the movies but Wimzie realizes that she still has the best hiding place ever and that she's ready for the next hide-and-seek challenge.
12 The Jingle
1/1/98
Season-only
The kids enter the "find a jingle" contest for the Bananabits cereal. The best jingle gets the author a Rockin' Rollin' Wagon. But to get it, the winner must also play their jingle for a TV ad. Wimzie wins with her jingle about the great taste of Bananabits. But after one bite of the famous cereal, she realizes she hates the taste. She decides she can't do the commercial and lie to the kids watching TV. The others remind her that she won't get the wagon unless she does the commercial. She changes her mind in order to get the wagon, but still can't stomach Bananabits. Meanwhile, Rousso has bought a vegetable cutter - the Veggie Viper - advertised on TV but he's upset because the contraption doesn't work the way the TV said. This restores Wimzie's sense of honesty; she realizes she can't lie about Bananabits on TV. But she comes up with a great solution she asks her friends - who love Bananabits - to eat cereal in the background while she sings a modified version of her jingle. The Bananabits people are so happy that they end up sending two Rockin' Rollin' Wagons; one for Wimzie and one for her friends.
13 Mind Your Manners
1/1/98
Season-only
At breakfast one morning, Wimzie is wiping her hands on her shirt, eating with her fingers and belching. Graziella, Rousso and Yaya explain that people don't like bad manners and that good manners make everyone feel more comfortable. But Wimzie says that all her friends eat with their fingers and burp and think it's funny. Later in days, the children come back from a birthday party where the other kids called Wimzie a "piggy" because she didn't have good manners. Wimzie is ashamed and when Graziella invites her to a special pilot and kids breakfast at the airport, she doesn't want to go because she's afraid she'll embarrass her mom. Yaya has an idea and has a "practice good manners" breakfast with the children. Wimzie and Graziella have a great time at the breakfast and Wimzie learns to mind her manners.
14 Let's Pick a President
1/1/98
Season-only
Rousso is practicing his campaign speech for his attempt at becoming President of the Firefighters Fraternal Federation, which gives the kids the idea to form their own club. They decide on a Recycling Club and vote on who should be president. Each kid votes for himself, except for Loulou, who doesn't want to be part of a club. Yaya suggests they make campaign posters and vote again. Again, they vote for themselves. They ask Loulou to join the club, figuring that she'll vote for one of them and break the stalemate. But once she's a member, Loulou votes for... herself. Rousso returns from his election and announces that he lost the presidency, but instead of being sad, he's happy about being Vice-President instead. The children are very interested to know that there are other jobs than President and that they each require special talent. It then becomes easy to decide Jonas is treasurer because he's good at counting, Loulou becomes secretary because of her excellent memory and Horace is vice-president helper since he's the strongest. Wimzie is made president since the club was her idea. Finally, everyone is happy with the outcome and without even having an election.
15 We Can Do It!
1/1/98
Season-only
The children keep asking Yaya to solve problems they could very well fix on their own if they gave a bit of thought. Rousso agrees and the new rule is that, even if adults are always happy to help, the children should first try to solve certain issues by themselves. Later, when everyone has a specific project to do, they each encounter some difficulty. Their first instinct is to go to Yaya for help. Instead, Yaya decides to put a lifelike doll of herself on the sofa and the kids, thinking it really is Yaya, pour out their project problems to "her". Since she doesn't answer, they continue talking about their problems in such a way that, out of necessity, they stumble upon the solutions by themselves. Yaya, who was observing, then reveals herself and the kids realize that they are capable of doing more for themselves than they thought.
16 The Accident
1/1/98
Season-only
Loulou comes to daycare with her leg in a cast. Horace, Wimzie and Bo are quite impressed and interested in the whole situation. However, Jonas seems very grumpy. At first, Yaya thinks he's jealous of the attention Loulou is getting so she suggests playing a game that he would like. Loulou agrees and says that Jonas is a good big brother. Jonas then bursts into tears and runs out. Eventually, Yaya learns that Jonas feels responsible for his sister getting hurt since Loulou tripped on a roller skate he'd left on the floor... after his mom had asked him to put it away safely. Things get back to normal when Jonas apologizes to Loulou and is happy to discover she's not mad at him and still thinks he's a good brother. Jonas says that from now on, he'll make sure to pick up his toys.
17 Happy Birthday, Yaya!
1/1/98
Season-only
Wimzie and the kids figure out a way to keep Yaya out of the kitchen while they mix the batter for a special "Happy Birthday Yaya" cake. Loulou will pretend to lose her favourite blankie which in fact they hide in a tree and will take Yaya on a wild goose chase everywhere but in the kitchen to look for it. Horace has to leave for a dentist appointment but, just as he's ready to go, the blankie falls from the tree. In a rush, Horace picks it up and leaves to go to the dentist. Later, when the cake is ready and the surprise is out (but Horace is not yet back from the dentist) the blankie can't be found. This time, Loulou doesn't have to fake her tears. But then, Horace comes back, has a piece of cake and, learning why Loulou is in such distress, remembers the blankie still in his bag. Loulou is happy again and the kids get great credit for thinking up a clever and imaginative plan to distract Yaya and prepare a wonderful surprise for her.
18 The Dropsies
1/1/98
Season-only
Wimzie is being careless and is dropping and breaking lots of stuff, claiming every time that "it's an accident." She becomes upset when the kids won't let her touch their things for fear that she might destroy them. When Yaya tells a ghost story, Wimzie decides that a ghost in the house makes her drop things. She decides to stay up all night in order to bribe the ghost with candy and make it go away. But she falls asleep and Yaya takes the candy, which makes Wimzie think that the "ghost" has made off with the bargain. Wimzie then becomes confident and isn't dropping things anymore. That's when Yaya reveals that she took the candy, not the ghost, thereby showing Wimzie she is capable of controlling what happens to her. Eventually, Wimzie understands that if she's careful, accidents don't always happen.
19 Icky, Yucky and Goofy
1/1/98
Season-only
While waiting for a butterfly to burst out of a cocoon, the children compare the "icky" cocoon exterior to Wimzie's hair. Wimzie takes it to heart and starts wearing a football helmet to cover up her "ugly" hair. Graziella and Rousso try object lessons in not listening to what others say about you to convince Wimzie she's got nice hair but to no avail. Later, Rousso needs a family photo taken for an award he's receiving but Wimzie refuses to take off her helmet. Yaya shows up with a pair of ridiculous-looking sunglasses that she's wearing because one of her friends told her she had "buggy" eyes. Wimzie protests and tries to make Yaya understand something she can't see about herself. But her own resolve about her "ugly" hair is somewhat shaken. That's when out of the cocoon comes a beautiful butterfly. Filled with wonder, and in a show of solidarity with her grandma who gets rid of her glasses, Wimzie imitates the butterfly and decides to take off her helmet. Surface has little to do with substance.
20 Cinderloulou
1/1/98
Season-only
Horace, Wimzie and Jonas are playing games that Loulou is either too unskilled or too small to play. They start taking advantage of her because she's the smallest; they also con her into doing their chores and clean-ups in exchange for letting her participate in their play. In the meantime, Yaya has promised the children special treats if they all do their chores promptly and well. But Yaya discovers what the older children are up to with Loulou. When it comes time to give out the treats, she arranges it so that Loulou is the last in line; when she gets to her, there are no treats left. Horace, Wimzie and Jonas feel awful and, still trying to hide what they were doing, insist on giving Loulou their treats. A few pointed questions later, the three culprits confess and apologize to Loulou. To make it up to her, they offer to play one of the games she likes best; the limbo!
21 Loulou Thinks Big
1/1/98
Season-only
Loulou is three and a bit, but she's still too little to do a lot of things. She can't help Rousso repair a ball throwing contraption. She can't help Yaya dust the high shelves in the kitchen. She can't play baseball with the big kids. Even Horace's new game says "For ages 4 to 7." So she tries to make herself bigger with a pair of high-heeled shoes, but soon takes a tumble. Yaya explains that growing up happens gradually, one day at a time, and that eating lots of good things will help her grow. Loulou takes Yaya to her word and begins to eat and eat and eat... Needless to say, she makes herself sick and is saddened to learn that eating copiously will not make her grow quickly either. In the meantime, Rousso seems to have repaired the famous ball thrower. He decides to test it one more time and mayhem ensues! Balls are shooting out in every direction, and no one is able to slip their hand inside the crazy machine to hit the "off" switch. Rousso needs someone small to help him solve the problem, and Loulou is coaxed into coming to the rescue. She manages to stop the mechanism. Everyone applauds her and Loulou learns that being little does have its advantages.
22 Nicknames
1/1/98
Season-only
Rousso has some fun calling Wimzie "Wizzie" as a name of endearment. He's even writing a song about it. Wimzie doesn't really like the name but doesn't want to tell her dad for fear that he'll get angry. Loulou offers to trade names with Wimzie for the time it would take to go and talk to Rousso. The girls execute their plan but when Loulou talks to Rousso, he thinks she's talking about herself, which does nothing for the Wimzie-Wizzie problem. Finally, Wimzie musters the courage to tell her dad the truth. Rousso understands the situation but is nonetheless sad. Wimzie then becomes very worried over his reaction. But a few minutes later, Rousso comes back happy and with a beautiful cuckoo clock (that Wimzie thought was broken and gone to the trash) he repaired just for her. Wimzie is so touched that she relents and, as a gift to her daddy, allows him to call her "Wizzie" and sing the Wizzie song.

The following day, Jonas tells Loulou he thinks their mom was upset because of Loulou's admission that she has "another mommy". Loulou then decides to avoid Yaya who doesn't understand the sudden reversal. Eventually, Jonas tells Yaya what happened and Yaya figures out that the tears shed by Jonas and Loulou's mom were the result of the same kind of allergy Horace suffers from. Yaya explains to Loulou and takes the opportunity to let her know that loving other people will never stop her from loving her own mommy.
26 I Don't Like Chores!
1/1/98

Wimzie, however, would rather be playing. While picking up a pair of dirty socks, she gets an idea if she didn't live at home anymore, she wouldn't have to do chores! She decides to set her tent up in the back yard and declares herself independent. Yaya and Graziella agree the idea is brilliant and decide to do the same; no more chores for anyone! At snack time, Wimzie heads for the kitchen... only to find that Yaya hasn't prepared anything! Later, Wimzie dirties her vest. She goes inside to fetch a clean one and discovers that... her mom no longer does the laundry! The children find out that nothing goes right when people only do what they feel like doing. Wimzie speaks to Graziella and Yaya and comes to realize that it's fair for everyone to do chores. Yaya then reminds Wimzie that everyone's efforts, including Wimzie's own, contribute to the family's happiness.

Season-only
In this story, a lot of imagination and a little jealousy come into play. Loulou and Bo speak to each other in a made-up language and Yaya tries to learn it. Jonas comes to daycare with a pirate ship made from recycled objects, but it pales in comparison to Horace's super-duper store-bought space ship. Everyone prefers Horace's brand new toy, and that makes Jonas sad. Yaya encourages him to make his own space ship. So he does! And he does it so well, that now Horace is envious. A tussle breaks out, and Horace's space ship is accidentally damaged. But, not only does Jonas manage to fix it, he also convinces Horace that a little imagination can transform the funny-looking repairs into the latest space technology.
