The Complete Second Season episodes (22)

1 The Last of Summer
9/15/03
Until the Brown family arrived last year, it seemed like nothing ever changed in Everwood, a charming little town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Dr. Andrew "Andy" Brown has made the transition from a world-renowned neurosurgeon, whose career overshadowed his parental obligations, to a small-town clinician and attentive but struggling father to bright 10-year-old Delia and troubled 16-year-old Ephram. Plainspoken Edna Harper (series star DEBRA MOONEY) serves as Dr. Brown's nurse and office manager, despite being the mother of the only other doctor in town, irascible Dr. Harold Abbott, whose children, 16-year-old Amy (series star EMILY VanCAMP) and 18-year-old Bright (series star CHRIS PRATT), have become friends with Dr. Brown's at school. Dr. Brown has also found his neighbor, Nina Feeney (series star STEPHANIE NIZNIK), to be a reliable confidante. And the school bus driver, Mr. Irv Harper (series star JOHN BEASLEY), keeps watch over it all.
2 Extra Ordinary
9/22/03
Dr. Brown is concerned that Ephram needs more extracurricular activities in order to be accepted at a top college, but Ephram is only focused on his Juilliard music school audition--which has surprising results. Amy's lack of interest in college preparation alarms her mother, Rose (recurring guest star MERRILYN GANN), more than her father, Dr. Abbott. And Bright's poor grades result in him being ejected from the football team, possibly jeopardizing the scholarship his father believes may be Bright's only chance to get into a decent school. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown tries to help a cheerleader, Stacey Wilson (KRISTEN BELL), who has ruptured breast implants but cares more about looking good than being healthy.
3 My Brother's Keeper
9/29/03
The entire Abbott family is agitated by the return of Dr. Linda Abbott (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS - "Melrose Place"), Dr. Abbott's sister, who has been practicing Eastern-based medicine in exotic locations around the world. Edna is so proud of her daughter's accomplishments that she doesn't notice how lonely Linda is, and Edna needs to be reminded what a wonderful life she's built with Irv, even without travel and excitement. Linda encounters major resistance from Dr. Abbott when she announces her decision to join his practice. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown learns that some local adolescents may be practicing unsafe sex, and he is shocked at their parents' reaction to the situation. Also, Bright asks Ephram to watch over Amy, whose odd behavior has everyone worried.
4 East Meets West
10/6/03
Dr. Brown's well-intentioned plan to give Ephram more free time by hiring college student Madison Kellner (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER) as a caretaker for Delia ends up making things worse. Madison treats Ephram like a child and embarrasses him in front of Amy. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown's concern for the deceased Colin's alcoholic father, James (recurring guest star MICHAEL FLYNN), distracts him from Nina's struggle with her divorce proceedings. Dr. Abbott continues to clash with his physician sister, Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS), when she tries to take over his office. The differences in their personalities and medical philosophies become alarmingly clear.
5 Daddy's Little Girl
10/13/03
When Dr. Brown invites Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS) to dinner at the Brown house to discuss a patient, Delia lashes out, using foul language. With some insight from Delia's caretaker, Madison Kellner (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER), Ephram figures out the reason for his sister's bad behavior. Meanwhile, Amy's depression deepens, but when her therapist recommends medication, Dr. Abbott refuses to write a prescription to help his daughter cope with Colin's death.
6 Blind Faith
10/20/03
Much to his chagrin, Dr. Abbott suspects that Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS) and Dr. Brown are far too attracted to each other, so he decides to select more appropriate suitors for his sister. Meanwhile, Ephram finally has the courage to tell Amy how he really feels about their relationship, but he is confused by his interest in Madison (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER), who comes to his aid when Ephram needs help passing his driving test. Dr. Brown tries to help the soon-to-be-remarried Reverend Keyes (TIM DeKAY - "Carnivàle") cope with his impending blindness, but the minister would rather leave his fate to God than attempt a new treatment that might save his sight.
7 Three Miners from Everwood
11/3/03
When a coal mine collapses, Dr. Brown rushes to the scene, along with Edna, Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS) and Dr. Abbott. One of the miners, Will Cleveland (recurring guest star JAMES EARL JONES - "The Great White Hope," "Field of Dreams"), is a jazz pianist who has recently become Ephram's mentor. Another, Daniel Sullivan (BEAU BRIDGES - "The Second Civil War"), lives next door to Dr. Abbott, who has attempted to thwart Sullivan's outrageous building plans. And the third victim is Ellie Beels (KIRSTEN NELSON - "The West Wing"), who has been trying to conceive a baby. Dr. Brown, Dr. Abbott and Linda utilize their special skills under terrible conditions, but it is Dr. Brown who must confront his biggest fears in order to save lives.
8 The Burden of Truth
11/10/03
When Phil (J.K. SIMMONS - "Oz"), a mechanic, correctly "diagnoses" Dr. Brown's young patient with meningitis rather than with the flu, the townspeople believe Phil is a seer. Ephram confronts Madison (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER) about his feelings for her. Amy agrees to seek professional help from Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS). But out of desperation, Amy steals Linda's medical notepad to forge a prescription for antidepressants. Meanwhile, Edna learns the disturbing truth about why Linda does not want to pursue a relationship with Dr. Brown.

But Dr. Brown persists, forcing Linda to inform him that she is HIV positive. Meanwhile, Bright tells Ephram to ignore Madison (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER) in order to win her affections, but that becomes difficult when she breaks up with her boyfriend and comes to Ephram for friendly comfort. And Amy meets the flirtatious and attractive town "bad boy," Tommy Callahan (recurring guest star PAUL WASILEWSKI - "The O.C."), who has compassion for her problems and awakens emotions that she hasn't felt since Colin's death.
10 Unhappy Holidays
11/24/03
Outraged to discover that Ephram and Madison (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER) have gotten romantically involved, Dr. Brown almost terminates her job. However, Madison quits anyway, leaving the Browns with a very unhappy holiday. The situation worsens when Delia discovers another troubling relationship--the one between her father and Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS). Stressed by having to spend Thanksgiving with his cantankerous mother-in-law, Carol Roberts (BETTY WHITE - "Golden Girls," "Bringing Down the House"), Dr. Abbott reacts badly when Amy brings town "bad boy" Tommy Callahan (recurring guest star PAUL WASILEWSKI - "The O.C.") to dinner. Amy finally becomes so exasperated that she runs away from home.

This is one of the most thoughtful, influential pieces of television that I have seen in the last fifteen years. While it is not based around action, it tells a compelling story of a doctor caught up in the fast lane of life who moves to a small town in Colorado to start over with his neglected son and daughter after his wife's passing. It strikes so many of the issues that are relevant to everyday life with fantastic acting, photography, plot, setting, ect. This is certainly a great show to watch, and it was sad when it was cancelled during the shift of networks to what is now the CW.

I came late to this show coming across it on a streaming service. I found the overall story line compelling and the various sub plots entertaining with a great mix of characters that kept you wanting more. I have viewed this via streaming and service and on DVD which I recently purchased. However in the reviews of the final episode it mentions a meeting between Amy and Stephanie where Amy tells Stephanie that she intends on telling Ephram how she feels. But this scene is not on the streaming service or DVD versions. Does anyonr know why? This scene would site nicely between the Amy/Hannah discussion on how to tell Ephram and the movie theatre scene where Stephanie/Ephram run into Amy and it would certainly explain the exchange of looks between Amy and Stephanie, can anyone help.

Created by one of the producers of Dawson's Creek, this clever and warming series is great quality TV. I love the interplay among the characters, and the dialogue isn't nearly as verbose as DC. We need more TV like this
