To answer the comment below about the gasifier, as someone who's studied WW2 history I can attest that yes, it is a valid method of powering vehicles and was used during the war when gas was rationed. It's not used by more people because as is shown in the episode, hydrogen gas won't power a vehicle to move very quickly, plus the gasifier requires a lot of wood to power a vehicle over long distances.

These "mountain men" are thoroughly modern people. There are some serious fake aspects to this show, which have been exposed. See "The Biggest Scandals of the History Channel" on YouTube.

I live in the same area as Tom and have met him and Nancy, they are excellent people.The show makes bigger issues of where we live than it really is.But it's a beautiful part of our country and I am blessed to live here and enjoy it :)
