Meet Erin

“In middle school, I actually wanted to be an animator”

Erin is a recent high school graduate and aspiring game designer from Freehold, NJ. Her awarded creation for the Design Challenge is a story-driven rhythm game called Symphony. She began pursuing animation at a young age. "In middle school, I actually wanted to be an animator," mentions Erin. Her aspiraition of becoming an animator later brought on her passion for game design.

When it comes to concepting her own game, Erin turns to what she loves - rhythm games and music. "One of the benefits of rhythm games is that it's a relaxing pass time. For me, whenever I'm having a bad day, music can get me into the groove and instantly brightens up my day," she explains. Erin's goal in her Design Challenge game was to give people that same uplifting feeling that music gives to her.

Erin is no stranger to winning. She has won numerous awards in various art and gymnastics competitions. However, placing as a finalist in the Design Challenge is a different type of win for her. "This is by far the biggest event that's ever happened, and I'm so happy that I took the chance," remarks Erin. She calls the Design Challenge one of the influences that geared her towards her goal of entering the gaming industry. Symphony is an emotional, musical journey for protagonist Serena Harmonia. The game is about a famous musician's granddaughter and her quest to find his favorite music that is is scattered throughout her world. Throughout her journey, Serena shares the magical effect of music with other characters and the gamer.
