Meet Lily

"I have always wanted to create a game, because I like to play them myself. Games are just the perfect combination of music and art - two of my favorite things to do"

Meet Lily, a 15-year-old from Poplar, WI. She is the designer and Design Challenge finalist behind The Other Realm. Lily has always had a knack for storytelling and designing characters. So, it was only a matter of time before she fulfilled her dream of creating a game of her own. "I have always wanted to create a game, because I like to play them myself. Games are just the perfect combination of music and art - two of my favorite things to do," Lily explains.

She knew just hours before the Design Challenge application deadline she couldn't let this opportunity pass. "I almost didn't do it," Lily revealed. "I thought I wasn't good enough." After placing as a top-five finalist, Lily now sees game design as a field of study to explore.

I will never forget this, this is my dream come true

Lily's trip to LA was nothing short of eventful. At E3 she heard motivating stories from female professionals in the gaming industry. "I will never forget this," Lily says cheerfully. "This is my dream come true." She also attended the Google LA office tour and visited a mobile gaming company. Her game, The Other Realm, aims to evoke emotion through storytelling. The inspiration for her game came from interests like the human brain, traveling to an alternate dimension, drawing eyes, and more. "I studied the parts and functions of the brain, and named the sectors and aspects of the giant tree similarly," Lily says. Players must heal the tree's damages and uncover memories from their own past throughout the game. The decisions the player makes determine the end of the story.
