I use Beam scooters in Wellington, but recently rented one in Queenstown to travel to my destination, only to find there was an $18 parking fee. $18?, for what would have been a $5 ride without the rip off parking charge. Incidentally, in Queenstown, the parking charge was applied over the vast majority of the map. The map doesn't advertise the actual parking charge fee, so you only find that out once you arrive. I won't be using a Beam scooter in Queenstown again, probably not home either. Con

This service used to be good. Now simply riding past the end of queen street mall (not in the mall, down the street) causes the scooter to lose all power, having to walk 30m for it to allow you to continue, and then parking on the corner near the train station where there are usually 20 scooters, and having to contact support because it's a "no parking zone". It took 8 minutes, and i got charged for that whole time because some tracking system was wrong. Disappointing. Prices up, quality down.

The group ride doesn't work. I was able to get it to work once and ended up messing around cancelling rides to get it to work. They are quick to bill you so you have multiple charges sitting on your account for awhile until it finally refunds. Another time it wouldn't work at all so I gave up and walked. Scooters didn't move and they are looking into it. Charges are still on my card.
