Shiji, one of the twenty-four histories, was originally called "Tai Shi Gong Shu" or "Tai Shi Gong Ji" or "Tai Shi Ji". It is a historical book written by Sima Qian, a historian of the Western Han Dynasty. It is the first general history of historical records in Chinese history. It has a history of more than 3000 years from the time of Huangdi in ancient legends to the four years of Emperor Wudi of Han Dynasty. In the first year of Taichu (104 BC), Sima Qian started the creation of "Tai Shi Gong Shu", which was later called "Historical Records". It took 14 years before the work was completed.
Shiji was listed as the top of the "Twenty-Four History", which had a profound impact on the development of historiography and literature in later generations. His first method of compiling history in Ji Chuan style was passed down by the "Official History" of the subsequent dynasties. "Historical Records" is also considered to be an excellent literary work and has an important position in the history of Chinese literature. It is praised by Lu Xun as "the swan song of historians, the "Li Sao" without rhyme" and has high literary value. Liu Xiang and others believe that this book is "good in order and reasoning, argumentative but not flashy, and quality but not slanderous."
