The Mechelen Catechism is a catechism that at the beginning of the 17th century by the Jesuits at the request of Archbishop Matthias Hovius (1542-1620) was developed. He first appeared in 1607 and was prepared in question and answer form. The 1623 version of this handbook would catechetical until well into the twentieth century are the basis for the teaching of religion in all Belgian dioceses.
