About this app

Identifying colors - simple and reliable
Are you having trouble distinguishing colors? Name Color can help people with color blindness or color vision deficiency to determine color names precisely.

How it works
Camera mode: Take a photo of an object, tap a spot on the object, and the color name will appear.
Color slider: Mix colors using the red, green, and blue sliders and immediately see the name of the color you created.
Zoom: Use the magnifying glass for more precise color recognition.

Ideal for people with color blindness
Colors are everywhere – in traffic signs and information signs, in plans and maps, in signal and warning lights, in documents, in clothing and in nature. People with red-green color blindness or other color vision defects often cannot determine colors with certainty. Name Color can help to clearly identify colors.

- Save & compare results
- Display complementary colors

Detailed description
Take a picture of the object of which you want to know the color and open it in the app. Touch the object and the matching color name will be determined and displayed. Any photo can be used to identify the name of a color. The zoom mode can be activated with the magnifying glass icon at the bottom menu. If the color of which you want to know the name is covered by parts of the menu, you can hide all control elements. To do this, touch the close icon at the bottom right.

Or use color sliders for red, green, and blue to create or try out colors. For each color you select in the color slider, the color name is determined and displayed. In addition to the currently selected color, the complementary color is also displayed in the color slider. You can activate the color slider for red, green and blue with the result color field at the top left. If the color slider is active, you can save the current color with the plus icon at the bottom right. To do this, the option Adopt result must be selected in the default settings. The color is displayed in a list. This can be useful if you want to keep a specific color setting to later compare it to another color. In addition, you can easily use it to find out whether there are often similar colors that you cannot identify or assign well yourself.

The default settings of the app are opened with the icon at the bottom left. Here you can find the options Adopt result, Color values and Measuring area. Adopt result means the determined color value is adopted in the color slider. If this option is switched off, the last saved value is used in the color slider. With the Color values option, you can display the color values for red, green and blue in addition to the determined color name. Measuring area controls the number of pixels used to calculate the color name. The medium setting 5 x 5 often gives a good result.

The naming of colors is a complex process that is influenced by general and individual color perception, experience and the current lighting situation. For this reason, a percentage value is calculated for each color name, which indicates how reliable the result is.
