The app is buggy, whenever the phone has pop ups the app would freeze. Recording resolution is low, can't make out the reg on most of the vehicles unless it is right in front of you. Cannot export clips. No recording in loops, so on a long journey the accumulated videos would eat up all of the space and crash the phone unless you can find a WiFi to purge the files regularly. George I thought you are a super hacker, surely you can do much better than this!
I'm getting close to uninstalling this app. While I love the idea behind it, and want to support the goal, the app is just too buggy on my phone (OnePlus 3T). Video recorded gets uploaded but then never appears, only the first 10-15 minutes of video appear, video doesn't process correctly once uploaded, etc. What's odd is that a previous version seemed to work fine. Other reviewers have mentioned it, but this app eats up bandwidth when uploading; there's no cap. Out of curiosity I turned on cellular uploading, then turned off again; even though the feature was off, my video was uploaded over cellular during my drive, using up the rest of this cycle's data. The annoying bit is that the video never actually appeared in the app, once uploaded. There's a community, but on app support issues I feel like I'm just talking to myself. I really, really want to keep using this app.... it's just becoming a waste of time, energy, and bandwidth. Your mileage may vary. I've lately stopped driving with chffr altogether. Hopefully the next update to the app fixes the upload and GPS issues I've been facing. I'd like to keep using it, but right now it isn't viable.
Good on Comma AI to create an aftermarket self driving technology for cars. The concept is great but this app is frustrating. The app is unpolished and the developer really should put more effort into it.
This app is a great tool for gathering data. As other reviews have mentioned, it eats up bandwidth like crazy. If you run the app with the Panda dongle, you might as well not use any other app such as Waze or Spotify because it won't toggle between using WiFi for the data it receives from Panda and your LTE for the other apps. I was able to overcome the overheating problem with a black OLED overlay app, so my phone hasn't crashed yet, but it still gets pretty warm.
Great idea, and I want to support as much as I can, but lately it records many trips in landscape even though my phone is mounted in portrait mode..
Thanks for driving with chffr! This update collects data from panda on many previously unsupported cars 🎉! Additionally, panda connection reliability and recording with Android O is improved.
