About this app

Mushroom Checker looks at a photo of your find and tells you which species it is probably looking at, which species it could be confusing it with, and what you should check on the mushroom yourself. It is a reference tool for foragers. It is not a food safety test.

Mushroom Checker is a subscription app. It opens with a 3-day free trial that covers up to 10 identifications, then USD 4.99 per week or USD 39.99 per year with no limit on identifications. There is no free tier beyond the trial. Identification needs a connection, because the photo is analysed on our servers.

WHAT YOU GET BACK
- The top match with a confidence score, and the other species your photo could be.
- Family, genus and habitat of the top match, with a link to read more.
- Dangerous lookalikes of that species, marked with what reference data records as toxic and where that record comes from.
- A "check yourself" list: the features to look for on the mushroom in your hands before you believe any of it.

YOUR FINDS
- History keeps the top match of every identification you make, with your own photo, the species name, the date and a link to read more about it.
- Quests are three levels of five species each, from the ones that turn up on any forest edge to the ones you have to go looking for. A species counts as found when it comes out first in one of your identifications.
- Quests are about photographing and identifying, not about filling a basket. The species that have dangerous lookalikes carry that warning on the card itself.

HOW TO TAKE THE PHOTO
- Cap from above, the whole stem, gills underneath, daylight.
- Shoot from the app or pick a photo from your gallery - JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB.
- Analysis usually takes 5 to 15 seconds.

WHAT IT CANNOT DO
- The app is not a substitute for an expert. Never eat a mushroom based on the result alone.
- Identification is probabilistic and provided for reference only. It is a guess made from one photo, it is wrong sometimes, and a high confidence score is not proof.
- Two species can look identical in a photo and differ in something the camera never saw: the smell, the colour of a cut, the base of the stem under the soil.
- Before you eat any wild mushroom, have the find confirmed by an experienced forager or a mycologist. Nothing this app shows you is a reason to eat a mushroom.
- Reference photos are illustrative and may differ from your specimen. When confidence is low, treat every match as a guess, not an answer.

YOUR ACCOUNT
Sign in with your email, Google or Apple. A failed analysis costs you nothing: "not a mushroom", "no confident match" and errors are never counted. You can turn on App Lock so the app asks for your biometrics before it opens, switch on two-factor authentication, and delete your account together with your data from inside the app.

- Mushroom Checker Premium (Yearly): one year, USD 39.99.
- Both plans start with a 3-day free trial that includes up to 10 identifications. Once billing starts, identifications are unlimited while the subscription is active.
- The subscription renews automatically at the price of the plan you chose unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Payment is charged to your Google Play account. You can manage or cancel the subscription in Google Play at any time.

Startup fixed: the app can no longer get stuck on the splash screen. If our server does not answer, you now see a plain message with a Retry button instead of a logo that stays there forever.
