Review from Stephen Smith
Paid-for app The most annoying thing about this app is that it isn't a "Lite" version with an "option to upgrade" - it's a time-limited trial version that stops working after a few minutes use, unless you pay £2.99. Why not just be honest and up-front about what you're offering? As for the app itself, it's not bad and is a useful companion when visiting the museum. "Fantastic virtual experience" is perhaps over-egging it, as there are just static pictures and text linked to places indicated on the floor maps. It is quite nice for planning your visit and navigating around the (large) museum, though. Aesthetically the app seems to have been designed for iPhones, and is fairly ugly on larger-screen Android phones/phablets - the text doesn't resize or reflow and is massive on a Note, and it has its own rather idiosyncratic interface rather than follow normal Android design principles. Update: The developer has now changed the item description to remove the "Lite" reference and accurately reflect the trial nature of the app and the paid-for upgrade, so thanks for that. I've updated my rating for the app accordingly.
October 4, 2013Dear Stephen There are free galleries in the app, so please do contact at firstname.lastname@example.org to sort out what the issue is.. Thank you.
Am quite disappointed Was happy to pay for an app that would give me more info on the museum. However, I found it very confusing and difficult to use. When the museum is busy, which is most of time, there isn't the space to go wandering around trying to find an object that you have no clue to its location in the numbered room. Having the case number on the item picture would make the app actually useable and worth the money. As it was, I spent an hour trying to locate all the items in the trail then left in frustration!
Lovely idea. Some grammatical errors, eg: "the museum was found in 1759", actually, it was founded in 1759; the two words make an enormous difference to the meaning and understanding of when it was established, ie, FOUNDED. Also, were the Anglo-Saxons descendants of the Vikings? I think not. If you can navigate around basic errors like these, then it is a very useful app. I purchased the upgrade via Amazon, so won't be doing so through Google. Unless you have a way around that.
Pointess rubbish. Map was useless and a few reasonable photos I guess. Ok maybe I should have got the paid app. But why offer that free rubbish in the first place.
Doesn't tell you much about the special exhibitions. I'd like to know which galleries they're in before I get there as I want to head straight to the exhibition.
I've spent my money for nothing. Application is awful
