The turn-based game is developed from the idea of transforming the traditional crossword solution - old school Scandinavian style - into a game where you compete against each other in the same crossword puzzle.

You receive five letters each turn, then strive to place the letters in the crossword within a minute. There are several ways of out-scoring your opponent, including significant bonuses for completing words, for getting key letters right or for using all your five letters within a round.

Then again: it might just pay off to keep one of the crucial letters for later use – when the stakes are higher.

Kryss has the element of randomly awarded letters in common with other classic word games.

But Kryss is faster, and it offers a logic and gaming experience which makes it feel like no other pastime you ever engaged in. It is pure yoga for the brain, meditation for the mind, and vocabulary training in a game, all the while being so easily accessible that it is loads of fun for both young and old.

Ratings and reviews

Sept 2023 update: every once in a while I open this game to see if it's improved. Not as slow, but I lowered review from 3 to 2 stars bc the ads are worse than ever. This game could be so good!! It's so fun to play but the ads ruin it. There is a banner ad right across the top of the screen, so I can't see my score or the timer. Well done. Also, I'm not paying a monthly subscription to get rid of ads.

It's a fun game, but definitely requires ad-engagement to play. I'm also super frustrated that the challenges (which are how you earn points for boosts) don't always register completion of the assigned tasks (playing a certain number of letters or a specific type of game). No luck getting support for these issues. Edit: 8/29/23: I'm still having issues and still not getting any actual help. If you want a better review, please improve your support.

Update 8/30/2023: This is one of my favorite games for words /crossword puzzles. I was experiencing issues with games but the developers have fixed all of them. It's so much better than the typical crossword and really challenges me. Get the pro version w/o ads. Trust me! Previous review: I really like the game. The glitches are becoming too much. I purchased a game package but several of my games are lost in the cyber world. I'll send a challenge, a game will be deducted but no game appears.

- New rule for the last turn of the game. Once all available letters have been distributed amongst the players and there are less than 10 total letters left to be placed on the Game Board, each player will take one final turn before the game ends.
