About this app

VIRTEUM is a digital platform for communicating history and stories from the Lippe area between the Ruhr area and Münsterland.
In our app you can experience history up close. In the app we use augmented reality to make our stories immersive.
For example, you can open a virtual portal through which you can enter the old country synagogue in Bork. Discover the synagogue room in this unassuming, listed building from the inside. Learn details of its history, watch videos on Jewish history in it, or drop the room's sky ceiling to stand under an incredible starry sky.
In the "Historical Photos" area, we have stored old photos using geo-coordinates at the location where they were taken at the time. This allows you to take the perspective of the photographer at the original location of the shot and superimpose the moment captured at the time over the current state of the environment to see what it looked like at that exact spot. Find out the background to the photos and the features shown on them, some of which have disappeared or even still exist.
Using augmented reality, place the digital copy of the over 900-year-old reliquary of the image of John the Baptist in front of you. You will be able to get closer to this rare, gilded bronze figure than almost anyone else. Discover this unique historical work of art. Explore the details of the processing, look inside and learn its history and meaning.
