MYTERN Messages

The language of MYTERN

MYTERN stands for Take Emotional Responsibility Now.

It is based on the simple metaphor of rough, red roads and smooth, green roads – and
the all-powerful steering wheel.

Rough, red roads build resilience and increase your driving skills while smooth, green roads increase your health and consolidate your driving skills.

Roads are not good and bad – they are rough or smooth.

There are no wrong roads. It is now time to stop picking people up off the rough roads.
Even our definition of resilience – to bounce back- indicates that we must get off the rough roads asap…and the sooner we do, the more resilient we are. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

It is only by remaining on a rough road in control that you can really improve your driving
skills. How can you learn to handle mud on the road if you are always told to avoid it?

Can you be out of control on either road? Absolutely!

Being out of control on a confident or excited green road can be just as damaging as
being out of control on an angry or mean red road.

So the aim of life is to learn how to be in control on either road – how to take control of
your own steering wheel.

That’s where the daily text comes in.

By delivering a message a day, it prompts you to identify which road you are on - and if you are in control on that road – helping to change the pathways in your brain.

It’s never too late to learn how to take control of your own steering wheel.
