The search feature for finding additional podcasts needs some help, as it only works when you enter specific names or titles. It usually provides no results and no list of results unless you accurately enter a keyword about a specific podcast your trying to find. Also, I'm not sure what influences the listings shown in the discovery section, but they're all more or less the same sort of unengaging, obtuse podcasts. They are to podcasts what pop songs are to music. More original, unique, less elliptical podcasts to discover would be great, not a few thousand basically interchangable ones. The popular podcasts, as well as "top" and "networks" sections are hopeless for finding something worthwhile and interesting to listening to.
I used to be someone who occasionally enjoyed a podcast. Since I started using this app, I have become a podcast junky. I am simply smitten with this app after over two years of use, and it just keeps getting better. The 'Discover' section will change your world if you let it. If you like podcasts or want to try them out, do yourself a favor and download this app now. This might be my single favorite android app, and that is saying a lot. ☺
I've been using Pocket Casts for a long time, but they've been gradually removing my favourite features. It used to be that adding an episode to your play list would download it, but not any more. In fact, I've been unable to find any way of downloading an episode after is has started playing. It's so frustrating going around on the underground and the podcasts keep stopping because this app is trying to stream them instead of downloading!
I've really enjoyed this app since I initially started using it. The UI is fast and responsive. The web client is also amazing for transitioning from car to home and continuing where I left off. The latest release did introduce a breaking change for me that is causing my car's media system to crash when Pocket Casts is actively playing in Android Auto (2015 Nissan Rogue). High chance that this is a problem on my car's end, but I will need to find a new app if this continues This has been the first issue I've seen since I started using the app so still a solid 4⭐.
Love everything about the app, but really wish it would default to everything showing as not played when you add a podcast. Mine when I add a new podcast, all the currently loaded podcasts are unplayed, but if I click load more at the bottom, anything new that shows up says it's been played. Maybe if I Podcasted before this app it would be nice but since literally everything is basically unplayed by me it would be nice to have that fixed lol. They do have a webapp you have to purchase for syncing online and there are chrome extensions/app for chrome book. Edit: They also have a pretty funny changelog, the hunt for what is after 6.2.9 continues...
After using Google Listen, and Dog Catcher, I feel like I have finally found the best podcasting app on the market. The interface is bright and colorful, yet simple and intuitive unlike the other two. Google Listen (which is no longer supported) was dark and drab, but was clean and functional (when it worked). However, it left you left with very few options in term of customizations. On the other hand, Dogg Catcher gave you many options but has a learning curve and is not very intuitive or user friendly.
- New episode notifications now include "Play next" and "Mark as played".
- Fixed some episodes having trouble playing.
