The Australian Seafood Quality Index App is a tool for the seafood industry which guides the user through the process of assessing the freshness of seafood using the Quality Index Method.
Quality Index (QI) is an accurate method for measuring the freshness of chilled seafood.
QI is based on scoring schemes specifically developed to provide a direct correlation between a particular score and the storage time of product at 0oC, this is known as ice-days. Therefore QI scores indicate a time-temperature history of the product expressed in ice-day equivalents. The seafood’s attributes are scored using demerit points. The scores are then summed to provide a total, which is the Quality Index itself.
