About this app

GuteBooks offers over 700,000 free classic e-books from authors ranging from Charles Dickens to H. G. Wells. Covering every genre of literature, GuteBooks offers free works of literature, science, drama, and history entirely free.

GuteBooks includes books from various sources, including Project Gutenberg, Google, and OpenLibrary.org. These works are in the public domain, and are totally free. That means that you won't find this year's new releases, but you will find the best literature of past years. Indeed, while many of the titles are the same ones you would find on a Kindle or a Nook, they are not just cheap, but entirely free.

Gutebooks allows you to view eBooks in two ways - by viewing the original pages of the scanned books, or by viewing resizable text scaled for your screen. Choose whichever method is best for you from the options menu.

Love it except for one thing.......I too use Librivox before bed and often, try to get the ebook copy, as a lot of what I listen to is historical/educational and often includes diagrams, art prints, etc...My only complaint is that a lot of the time, in my experience (perhaps it has to do with the type of books I'm seeking) Gutebooks wont have a text copy of it. I totally get that you guys depend on volunteers and provide a vital service on limited funds. I would love to help. Contact info ?

Can't bookmark. The text mode is useless, doesn't scroll fluidly but sticks horribly almost 1 minute to move 4 pages. Can't download graphic mode and that is not a winner either, it jumps to the next page instead of scrolling to the bottom. I only downloaded this because it was a librivox link. I will keep librivox but this will in the e-trash.

Not very good. First, the short number of reading line selected by the Text to Speech results in a "jerky" listening exoerience which serious affects my concentration. Second: When I need to pause my listening the reader start back at the beginning. This simply make it impossible to use. One star
