Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

I love ProtonMail BUT something has been seriously wrong with the recent Android versions. I am no longer able to send mail. I get error messages every few seconds saying the draft couldn't be saved. Then the whole thing crashes. When I do send a message, the recipient gets a blank. Meanwhile I later find a dozen drafts in the "Drafts" folder. Everything on the desktop website is fine, and right now that's the only way I've been able to compose and reply to E-mail. Thank you.

Hi! This behavior was brought to our developers' attention, and they are looking into the potential causes and solutions for it. In the meantime, try waiting a bit after you finish composing your message to tap 'Send', to allow time for the final changes of the message to be saved successfully. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I really liked the old app. The new one is very frustrating. Every week it seems like there's a new problem with it. The latest issue is for the last few days about a quarter of the emails I'm sending are going through to the recipient with all the text erased from them. They also show up in my "sent" folder with all the text that I typed missing. Update: I've reported this, followed the recommended steps, no fix yet.

That doesn't sound right at all. Could you please report this behavior to us at https://proton.me/support/contact so we can investigate further and help you with troubleshooting? In the meantime, please try clearing the app cache from the app's settings menu, or reinstall the app altogether to see if that helps.

I'm not sure if it's because it's so slow to load, respond, or function, but sending emails works less than half the time. Adding attachments is like playing Russian roulette(will it, won't it be added), and there are a few other serious usability issues with the app. I love the service and the vision, but I would really appreciate a working product. Galaxy s22 ultra on fiber wifi 6 and just failed sending another email. It really feels like you can't use it for anything serious currently

Sorry to hear that. Try clearing the app data and cache from your device settings to see if that helps the slow behavior of the app and the issues you've experienced with sending emails and adding attachments. If you're still having problems with the app, report this to us at https://proton.me/support/contact so we can investigate further.
