Hooked on Phonics contains 42 progressive lessons featuring leveled learning activities that cover key building blocks of reading: short vowels, simple plurals, simple compound words, beginning and ending consonant digraphs and blends, two-syllable words, and sight words. Each lesson concludes with a story specially written with the words just learned. Your child will read this book, proudly, on their own.

Ratings and reviews

We've only been using this app for a few days so far, but here are my thoughts. 1) we love the content. My older son is quickly going through the pre- section to revirw before really learning to read. My younger is only 2, but wanted to try. 2) I wish the app had some kind of parental control for leaving the app, switching learners, or jumping ahead. I try to do this with them but if I have to turn my attention away, my older is prone to exit while my younger switches sections.

Worst thing... Ironically my son left this review. He gets horribly frustrated with the app as he selects the correct answer and it replies that it was the incorrect answer. This can happen multiple times before it registers the answer as correct even tho selecting the correct one all along. It definitely has helped him read, I will give you that. However, due to his level of frustration with the app issues, it is very difficult to encourage him to use it.

I honestly may look for another app that does what I'm looking for. The pre read section needs the ability to click on letters/ pictures and hear it as many times as you want. Then once the kid feels confident they are hearing and understanding the right sound then they can drag the letter to where it goes. Also, to say lion every time you click on lion for example. Without this feature, the kid is just guessing instead of actually making a learning connection. Big big bummer. This needs change
