I'll be giving this game 5 stars due to the sheer quality of the game and the subsequent joy it has brought. I am a sucker for idle games and this is one of the better ones. Lots of intertwined systems that boosts each other, which makes progression feel constant. There's a few walls, but once you breach those, progression skyrockets again. This game deserves 5 stars, but it comes with a caveat. It's not finished - and development has shifted to Idle Research 2. So bear that in mind.

Was alright, I'd say it's 4 stars, but if you really enjoy idle games there's an great case to be made for 5 stars. I dropped it to 2 stars though because there are several hard caps in place, which you can reach in about 3 days, to prepare for the next update... which players have been waiting 2 years for. You're unable to unlock everything that is actually available because hard caps prevent you from acquiring the necessary amounts of resources to purchase them. 99.9% offline play.

This is a really good and fun idle game. It's very interactive and rewards managing your systems with fast progress. I just don't think the theme of the game is implemented very well. Using chemicals to make energy is a fun theme, but the systems interactions are not intuitive. Flasks empowering the previous color of flask is a weird mechanic that makes understanding your energy gain difficult, and future systems also feel random with samples and interactions between fire and ice flasks.

What's new

I added a note in-game regarding where development is currently at.

To keep it short: I've been busy working on a new and improved Idle Research 2 (IR2). I have a goal of taking some of the designs from IR2 to make IR1 better in the long-term. IR1 is a great game in its' ways, but as I've become a better designer and developer in college, the more I think it's a premature game. So far with IR2, the design makes sense, it's fun and purposeful. I'm excited to create a pre-order page soon!
