About this app

This Artemia app uses Augmented Reality technology to love, honor, and cherish the resilient brine shrimp of the Great Salt Lake, and learn about the perils they and their ecosystem face. It is a part of the Digital Blue Humanities Archive. There are two different ways to launch this app. To experience the AR brine shrimp, you need to open the JPG file below on your computer (or print it) and direct it on your phone camera with the opened app.
Why save the brine shrimp? Did you known that?!
-               brine shrimp are tiny crustations with precarious bodies and extra strong cysts,
-              they are now battling the high salinity of the shrinking waters of the Great Salt Lake, but there is a chance that in the state of cryptobiosis they may survive the sixth mass extinction,
-               they are a pillar of the eco-system the Great Salt Lake and the crucial link in a food chain that feed the fish and millions of migratory birds,
-               Capitalism assigned a commodity value to the brine shrimp in 1957 by reducing them to the Sea Monkeys, a magic instant life product that has been sold mostly to children in America since 1957.
- There are other ways to take a peek into the life of these beautiful creatures. You may become the ecosexual and declare: Save the brine shrimp! Free the sea monkeys!

Are you ready to kiss the brine shrimp?
