About this app

WHAT: Ágora is a collaborative game in which players, called Counselors, manage a city, making collective decisions in the face of various problem situations presented by the community. Each decision affects the fate of the city through the following indicators: public satisfaction, infrastructure, sustainability and economy.

OBJECTIVE: To provide an experience of brainstorming among players through concrete statements, in addition to exercising arguments, defending points of view and making decisions.

WHO: High school students are the priority audience, but the app can also be used in the final years of elementary school. The application can be used in the classroom by teachers from different areas, especially in the areas of Languages and Human Sciences.

HOW TO PLAY: The game works by rounds. In each round there is a problem situation in which players (preferably divided into teams of 3, 5 or 7 participants who form the Council) must read, discuss, argue and decide, through voting, whether they approve or reject the submitted proposal. Each decision affects the attributes of the city (public satisfaction, infrastructure, sustainability and economy) differently and can generate consequences / events throughout the game. Themes such as: Sustainability; Economy; Job; Child labor; City infrastructure; Vaccination; Harassment; Pesticides; Discrimination; Public security; Criminal majority; Arms carrying; Social isolation, among others, will appear in the game. Each group must play with only one cell phone and one of the players will be the coordinator of the game.

CREDITS: Ágora was created in the Marathon UNICEF-Samsung - Mobile Technologies at school 2019 by the team of the Counselors of the Youth Center for Science and Culture of Vitória da Conquista - Bahia.
