Background information of M. Anjan Kumar Yadav:
A grassroots politician, Yadav was made the Hyderabad City Congress president in 2003, but remained a minor figure in the factional politics of the Congress. He was denied an Assembly ticket in 2004 and staged a dharna in front of Gandhi Bhavan, the State Congress headquarters. On the last day of filing nominations, the then Congress MLA D Nagender, who was denied a ticket from Asifnagar and asked to contest from Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, dramatically switched to the TDP. Since Congress was left with no other candidate, Yadav was given Lok Sabha ticket from Secunderabad (which Nagender refused to accept). He reluctantly agreed, and was certain that he would lose in a big way against the then BJP Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreyya. Surprisingly, Yadav, who had not even campaigned widely, won the election and became an MP. And he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009!
