Review from A Google User
Plz allow HDMI The technology is available for HBO to let users have HDMI access... C'mon epics and verizon apps have it, HBO is big enough to have same capability as the other companies... If not buy it just keep your customer happy!!! WILL GIVE 5 STARS AFTER THAT HAPPENS!
Let's be clear: I love HBO shows. But this is the world's most obtuse streaming app. Watchlist requires you to put EVERY EPISODE in, it doesn't just automatically switch to the next episode. Every time I finish an episode, when I reopen the app, it automatically starts me five minutes before the end of the episode I already finished. There's no way to turn off "surround sound" when casting to a device, so you can't control the volume from your phone.
Only issue I have is that it keeps buffering. I have a strong connection but it buffers throughout the shows which ruins the mood or tone of the show. No network issues because other online videos play well with no issues. YouTube or Netflix for example. Please fix it. Previous comment was written over a month ago and the issues continue. Comments from others says that the issue's been going on for years. Fix it HBO.
Sorry but this app is an automatic fail for not allowing me to turn on the closed captioning. I try to select the CC icon and nothing happens. I tried installing on my Samsung Galaxy Note5 phone and my LG tablet and it doesnt work on either. Edited my review Thanks for the troubleshooting tips. I updated my phone and the captions work now. App is ok and does enough of what I need it to do. Wish the parental control was part of hbogo app instead of accessible by my cable provider, xfinity. I dont see an option to add a pin # to unlock content I want to see but not my kids.
The app in my objective opinion is good. There's only one little problem for users who posses an OLED screen with a 18:5:9 ratio. When you are watching something, there are the black vessels at each side of the screen that remain black, which make burn-ins in the display with time. A solution for this would be to allow the user to zoom-in to a full 18:5:9 ratio screen.
The app wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to constantly reset the service and reauthorize your devices. HBO is super worried about people sharing devices so every week or so they kick you off the system and you have to reactivate your device. It becomes a huge pain in the ass.
UPDATE: The app no longer crashes as often, but now I can't click the play/pause button when watching a video on my phone. Updated from 1 star to 3 stars, being that the crashing issues were fixed. Impressively bad. The app crashes a multitude of different ways. Tracking through a video is difficult. Love HBO content, hate this app.
• The search page now comes with recommended HBO series and movies. This is a real time-saver, so you can go ahead and rotate that frozen pizza halfway through cooking.
• Watchlist now shows most recently added items first.
• Various bug fixes and performance improvements.
