I used to count calories the traditional way. A sandwich is 327 calories. A can of soda is 180 calories. I would then scale what I was eating for the rest of the day so that I could stay under my total for the day. This method was overly difficult because I would agonize over how best to spend my remaining calories.
I decided to look at the problem differently. Instead of counting each item until I get to 2000 calories, what if I just decide that I want to eat 5 meals per day. If I space the calories out evenly, that is 400 calories per meal. This method of grouping the calories into meals (quantized meals) alleviated many of the difficulties. I stopped hording calories for the end of the day. I ate smaller meals which made me feel hungry less often. This also reduced the anxiety I was feeling about choosing what to eat.
I created this app to just keep track of how many meals I have eaten so far in a day. The preferences allow you to set how many calories you want to eat per day and how many meals you want to divide them into. You also have the option to count up from zero meals to your maximum or count down to zero. There is a widget included so that you don't have to open the app to record meals.
The app is very simple. Hopefully it is easy to understand how to use it. This is not medical or dieting advice, it is just what I have been doing. If you come across any problems, let me know. I hope that this app can help you in some way.
