Acid is your teeth\'s enemy; it can erode their protective enamel coating. Certain foods and beverages contain it, and it's also produced by bacteria in your mouth that feed on dietary sugar and release acid as a byproduct.

When bacteria in the mouth break down simple sugars, they produce acids that can erode tooth enamel, opening the door to decay. Sugary drinks pose a special threat because people tend to sip them, raising acid levels over a long period of time. Carbonated drinks may make matters worse, since carbonation also increases acidity. Sticky candies are another culprit, because they linger on teeth surfaces.
3. Know the friend, Saliva
Saliva is a front-line defense against erosion and decay. It helps remove food particles and contains minerals that help neutralize acid and promote remineralization of the tooth surface.
