The Garbage Locator Application made by students of DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering helps the MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, also known as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC) locate and clear clusters of garbage around the city. A civilian using this application takes a photo of a cluster of garbage in front of him/her. The location of this garbage cluster is geotagged/marked with a red marker on Google maps and is visible in this application. The Image of the garbage is uploaded to a server. Municipal authorities can locate the garbage through this marker and can view the Image of the photo taken by clicking on the marker. Once the garbage cluster is cleared, the image of the garbage is replaced with an image of the same location but of cleared garbage/no garbage visible. The red marker is now converted to a green marker on the map indicating the location of the cleared garbage. Employees of the MCGM may choose to filter the markers on the map in order to view either the only cleared/only uncleared garbage location markers.
