About this game
Nordic BLiS (Business Language in Swedish) is a game developed under the Virtual Education Experience in an Extended Nordic Region (VIEDEX) project, funded by the EU Erasmus + funding instrument.
The game follows the story of Nils, in the form of a stylized comic book, as he negotiates the trials of switching his life ambitions from ace hunter to food truck entrepreneur across several Nordic countries. Each chapter of the story takes place in a new capital city within the region and players unlock the different chapters by completing several mini tasks that teach Swedish business vocabulary and raise cultural awareness in each of the representative countries (Latvia, Finland, Iceland, Estonia and Sweden). The mini tasks are in the form of crosswords, listening comprehensions, memory games, cuisine identification and communication wording selections.
The comic book contains subtle humor without distracting players from the intended learning effect. Each chapter of the comic book consists of 10 to 15 frames with interactive elements that share facts about the countries and motivate players to complete more mini tasks. Each mini task has a unique reward mechanic that, cumulatively per country, provides the player with enough money to unlock that country's comic book chapter.
The game does not require an uninterrupted data connection and automatically saves the player's progress. For a truly complete learning experience, the game should be used in conjunction with the VIEDEX learning portal.
