About this game

A puzzle-match puzzle comedy about fame, misfortune, and working for nothing.

In Guildmaster Story, you play the role of Guildmaster Ganyo, an up-and-coming entrepreneur with a timeless dream: To let a group of young, energetic adventurers build him an empire that he doesn't have to pay for.

Through a combination of classic puzzle match gameplay, engaging characters and an original story, Guildmaster Story will delight everyone who ever worked an unpaid internship, got steamrolled by the sharing economy, or suspects that the people responsible for it all are precisely who they seem to be.

QUALITY GEM TAPPING

You've already played a million games exactly like this for a reason: Because they never stop being fun.

GOOD WRITING

A fun, lighthearted story (really, sort of) with memorable characters from the creator of Actual Sunlight and Little Red Lie.

EASY & FREE TO PLAY

The developer is a writer with no background in puzzle design - he literally does not know how to make levels that trick you out of your money.

Dull gameplay, Relies on humor. If you like the humor, it can be rewarding. I found it very hit or miss with a strong reliance on "rich kids are dumb, useless, bad people" used over and over again across the 40 cutscenes, rarely mixing it up. The gameplay itself isn't very satisfying, either. It isn't a match 3 game, you just destroy same-color blocks that touch. There's no real ability to plan ahead or overcome bad setups like you might in other puzzle games since you can't shift blocks around.

Fun, quick levels that you don't get stuck too often and the in-between sorry dialogues are really funny. I think the point goal are unbalanced though, as it never took any effort to beat them. Bonus points for not being too annoying ads, even thought the notifications and rate-me popup were annoying. In fact, the repeated rating pop-up kept me from actually rating while the last in-game dialog from the developer did the trick, nice touch.

Gameplay is fun, but the story is the star. Writing veers from sharply satirical to out-and-out goofy seamlessly, and it's all funny. I keep playing because I want to read more; the matching-puzzle gameplay is a bonus. In-app purchases and ads are extremely reasonable. So far I have yet to really bump up against an unfair or insurmountable situation. It's kinder than other mobile games in that way. Honestly, I've started watching ads even though I don't need the money just to support this game.
