Wagotabi is your daily companion for learning Japanese from scratch, at your own pace, and with maximum immersion. Learn to read, write, and understand Japanese in context, while retaining Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Use your Japanese skills to progress in the adventure offered by this educational game.

Designed in close collaboration with +300 Japanese language experts, official Japanese prefecture tourist associations and thousands of early testers, Wagotabi provides you with an immersive approach to language learning following a graded reader approach. Words and grammar points are introduced according to the JLPT standard, beginning with N5.

Ratings and reviews

This game does have potential as it's fun, the art style is good, and the dictionary is very helpful. However I've found that the battles can be very frustrating for a semi-beginner like me. Specifically the fact that they are timed makes it so that you make more mistakes and are less careful with your answers so I wish that there was a setting to choose whether battles are timed. Aside from the battles I really enjoy the game but the battles have made me frustrated enough to not play it.

Truly incredible language learning journey so far! I have been wanting to improve my very weak and limited Japanese for awhile, but never found a routine that was comfortable or consistent. After playing around 15-30 minutes of Wagotabi every day for a month, I'm amazed at how fast my reading/comprehension has become, and I've memorized over 100 more kanji since I started playing. Ingenious idea for language learning, I can't wait to see how far this game goes.

Honestly, I haven't played for a few days after reaching the current end, But it's an amazing contrast to when Duo had me asking if you listen to J-pop. I can now read little books it gives me and understand even without furigana and I feel confident to form sentences, Even if slightly less so online, But with Duo, I would have never dared! In only like 2 months! Thank you, I now have the vocab to learn through exposure on YT while I wait for an update, Truly worth my time!
