This app converts a decimal (base-10 system that we usually use) to a vigesimal number used in the Mayan numeral system and vice versa. The Mayan numeral system, used in the Mayan civilization, is a vigesimal system that entail numbers composed of three symbols: shell-shape zero, one (a dot) and a horizontal bar (each representing five).
Even though the Mayan numeral system has largely been replaced by the decimal system even in the countries where the Mayan civilization flourished such as Guatemala and Mexico, we can still feel its presence in many places including Mayan Ruins, Guatemalan bills and Guatemala’s national math textbooks.
The Mayan numeral system is fun to learn and it is a good mental exercise to play with decimal and vigesimal numbers!
With the new version, you can even convert numbers into Mayan hieroglyphs!
