WiFi= OK; 4G = Error; 1/31/13 Works Great Now For that past several weeks, the app works fine using a Wi-Fi connection. Using Verizon's 4G network gives an error message [An error occurred trying to look up your train status, please try again later] when attempting to get train status or purchase a ticket. UPDATE Jan 31: App works great on Wi-Fi AND Verizon 4G. Thanks for the 4G network fix!
Crippled App :( The station lookup is a giant list and you have to scroll through every station in the entire country to find a station code. If you do know the code you want, you can't enter it manually. The map lookup has no search feature - enough said. When you finally enter the station codes you want, out only returns purchase/pricing info for business or first class. On the bright side, it would be nice to have a digital ticket vs paper ... if you can buy the one you want.
Missing important features The app works well as long as you pay full fare and purchase your tickets via the app. However, there is no option to search Smart Fares or other specials while using the app and if you buy your tickets (while logged into your account) on the full website, the app does not sync to acknowledge your trip, including that there is no way to add the trip to the app once you look it up with your reservation number. It works as far as it goes but there is much that could be added to make it top notch.
Updated from last review. *Unable to view trips booked online - This is a huge problem *Account information (points, etc) show 0 *Old trips are sill in app, even a month after the trip *City picker is terrible *Date picker is clumsy Date selector would be more useful if it were a calendar view instead of this rolling date picker. Seems to have multiple issues with viewing and modifying trips that aren't booked on line.
At least I can log in now I just downloaded the app for the 3rd time. Last week I only got a graphic that was useless. Today an app was loaded on my cellphone and I was actually able to log in. If usability and easy access continues then I will give 5 stars.
Ridiculous Took my money! Never gave me a confirmation number nor a reservation number! Had to drive down to the station cause no one EVER PICKS UP THE PHONE only for the woman to tell me that AMTRAK is hold my money for 5 business days and I would have to purchase the ticket AGAIN! BS
Absolute garbage - can't display online reservations on account or manually What's the purpose of having an app that does not display basic account details? If you're a transit app, that means showing current reservations and related barcodes, and allowing changes or cancellations from the app. It's not rocket science, but Amtrak certainly does not get it because reservations purchased online (on same account because I had a voucher and app won't accept voucher as payment) do not display. In fact you cannot even manually search for an online res.
• You can now purchase tickets in the app using the Amtrak National Student discount. It's available on the passenger information screen alongside other Amtrak discounts.
• The app now automatically identifies your credit card type during purchase.
