Review from John Magnusson
WiFi= OK; 4G = Error; 1/31/13 Works Great Now For that past several weeks, the app works fine using a Wi-Fi connection. Using Verizon's 4G network gives an error message [An error occurred trying to look up your train status, please try again later] when attempting to get train status or purchase a ticket. UPDATE Jan 31: App works great on Wi-Fi AND Verizon 4G. Thanks for the 4G network fix!
Reservations do not show through "upcoming trips" even when reservations are made directly from the mobile app. You need to know the reservation number to look it up through the search tool. Highly annoying.
Edit: today's app update *finally* fixed the cellular problem mentioned below. For months and months, getting ticket info and train status over cellular has been broken, but Wi-Fi works fine. Many inconveniences compared to what one might expect of modern apps, but when it works, the e-ticket and train status checks are more convenient than the Amtrak website from a cellphone.
The app does not show trips I have booked. Does not seem to sync with my on line account so on order to use the ticket on the app, I need to find and enter the reservation number - very cumbersome.
Not able to use this app with guest rewards. For the basics, buy a ticket, check a train status this app is adequate, but nothing more.
With very limited functionality, I'm capable of purchasing and using tickets... Every time I make a purchase under my account, it asks for my phone number, and credit card info... Its 2017, and we don't have passwords for the info inside an application? Look at PayPal, venmo.... They all can save card info...
This app WILL lose your reservations. Take a screen capture of the QR code or make sure you can get into your email on the train! The from-to train status won't show trains that have departed so it's not really status, just guesses about the future.
