About this app

Metronome Beats — a free, accurate metronome, drum machine, and speed trainer designed by musicians. With over 25 million downloads, it's used worldwide for solo and group practice, teaching, live performance, dance classes, running cadence, and golf putting drills.

Built for one-handed control: tap to nudge the tempo by 1 or 5 BPM, sweep the slider, or tap out a tempo with your finger. Visual beat indicators let you follow the bar at a glance — mute the sound and stay in time visually while you read music or talk to your students. Settings are saved automatically, so you pick up exactly where you left off.

Practise smarter:
- Speed Trainer — gradually increase or decrease tempo by bars or seconds to push your speed without losing time.
- Drum Machine — play along to real grooves with multiple drum kits, programmable patterns, and full mixer control.
- Polyrhythms, swing, and complex subdivisions — up to 16 clicks per beat, custom accent patterns, and unusual time signatures.
- Tap tempo — don't know the BPM? Tap it in.

Built-in features:
- Tempo from 1 to 900 BPM
- Italian tempo markings (Largo, Allegro, Vivace…)
- Custom presets — save and recall your go-to settings instantly
- Per beat mute and accent control
- Adjustable pitch and custom sounds so you can hear the click over your instrument
- Timer to stop the metronome after a set number of bars or seconds
- Bar and beat counter
- Plays in the background alongside sheet-music and tab apps
- Lock-screen and Bluetooth media controls
- Optimised tablet layout — every control on one screen
- Light and dark themes
- Export and import settings as .mbeats files to share between devices

Metronome Beats Pro unlocks tools for serious practice and live performance:
- Setlists — chain presets together for rehearsals and gigs
- Songs — build a song from sections (intro, verse, chorus…) each with its own tempo, time signature, and bar count
- Live mode — large, gig-friendly controls and quick switching between songs on stage
- No adverts

Whether you're learning your first scale, drilling tricky passages, or running a band rehearsal, Metronome Beats keeps you in time.

I'm using the app for my practice sessions. I'm a returning flute player after 53 years, and I'm playing with a band for the first tune since high school. I need to "woodshed" a lot of the speedy passages, and this has been very helpful in keeping me on track. I can start slowly, then gradually speed up to where I'm expected to be! Thank you so much! I anyone had told me even 2 months ago that I would've come this far by then, I never would've believed them!

I don't use the Metronome Beats app for music or timing. I use it to bring peace and order to my mind. As an autistic person with ADHD, my mind can become chaotic in two ways. A slow beat helps slow racing thoughts, while a faster beat helps organize the many thoughts competing for my attention. I don't need the app all the time. But when I do, I really do. It's become an invaluable tool for my productivity and peace of mind at work.

I am approaching 60 and have never seriously tried to play an instrument. I can not read notes well just yet. Trying to keep time in my head while my brain is focused on learning notes can be frustrating. Your app allows me to hear the beat while my eyes and part of my brain are playing music one note at a time. I am doing things the hard way. I am learning the music notes first, the chords will come later. Your app has helped so much with my learning style and needs. THANK YOU.!!! John B.
