The verbal part of the SAT exam tests a student’s vocabulary and reading comprehension. About half of the questions in the verbal section will be specifically to test vocabulary skills, but even the reading comprehension section depends heavily on the reader’s ability to figure out unfamiliar words in context. You might wonder why vocabulary skills are at such a premium in a college entrance exam.
Well, in order to perform well in college, a student must have an adequate command of the English language. They will have to be able to navigate their textbooks easily, and communicate their ideas and thoughts fluently. Students without a strong vocabulary will be at a significant disadvantage throughout their college career.
Because vocabulary is such a key component of the SAT, it is important to focus on building a strong command of the English language before taking the exam. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways. This SAT Vocabulary app will help you achieve your goal more efficiently:
- The database contains a list of over 5000 common SAT words with pronunciation and a brief definition.
- It uses 3 different approaches (Word List, Flashcard and Quiz) to fit in different students’ study habits.
- You may mark the words that you’re not familiar with and review only those marked words in Flashcard mode.
- It tracks your progress and results for all quizzes you take.
Be better prepared!

By Aggiepatten Sep 25 (For our iPhone version of this app)
Don’t have time to cram boring vocabulary lists? Kept postponing vocabulary building and now the SAT is near. Afraid of the huge word list?
If you answered yes to any one of these questions then this App is for you.
VocabAhead provides a full-brain learning approach to understanding and mastering tough English words for standardized tests such as SAT, ACT and GRE. The combined effect of audio and visuals builds necessary connections that make the recall of the meaning effortless.
This App helps you learn these words through
- the use of visuals
- high quality audios
- contextual usage in multiple example sentences
Not only do you hear correct American English pronunciations from narrators but also you can hear how the word can be used in example sentences. Humor in cartoons makes it easy to remember the meaning of each word and as a whole makes the whole learning process fun and entertaining.
The Quiz section provides multiple choice questions where choices are generated randomly for reach word. Each correctly answered word is automatically moved to the 'Mastered List' from the list of words called 'Don't Know'. Performance is tracked automatically since the App keeps track of the words you have mastered or those that you don't know, you do not need to worry about managing the lists at all. You just have to learn the words and confirm your learning by taking Quizzes regularly. Your goal should be to move all the vocab words to the 'Mastered List' by taking quizzes and answering the questions correctly!

SAT Vocab Master is a vocabulary app made to help you study for the SAT/ACT/GRE tests, or simply to enhance your vocabulary. There are currently 4971 words in this app (2381 nouns, 1533 adjectives, 1003 verbs, and 54 adverbs). The words were taken from freevocabulary.com, an excellent educational resource. Also included are 40 common prefixes, their meanings, and example usage.
There are two types of quizzes in SAT Vocab Master: multiple choice quiz and flash card quiz. Both allow you to create filters for the quiz, such as only adverbs, only words that start with a certain letter, or only the words you have previously marked for review. You can mark words for review and see all the ones you have marked by going to the All Words list and checking the "Review words only" checkbox.
The newest feature, as of v2.1.2 is the ability to view past multiple choice quizzes taken. Completed quizzes are automatically saved to the device and can be viewed by clicking the "More Options" tile on the homepage, then selecting "View Quiz History". You will be able to see the time you took the quiz, how many questions there were and how many you answered correctly, and your answer / the correct answer for each question. Please refer to the updated screenshots for better understanding.
SAT Vocab Master was recently deemed educationally valuable by an independent group of educators and was invited to join the Google Play for Education pilot program. Because of this, I will regularly update the app and add new features that are requested, so please leave a review or email me if you want to see something in a future version.

The word bank is updated frequently, so there will be new words to learn and master all the time!
The Virtual Tutor - Vocabulary app is a product of Ivy Standard tutoring company, which has been providing students with test preparation services for over 10 years!
Contains 3 mediums for studying: the learning sessions, the word list and flash cards. The learning sessions are where the core gameplay lies. The learning sessions provide you with a list of words to study in that session and they test you progressively. You will receive the words with their definitions and example sentences. Then you will be asked to match the meaning of the given word, then be given the meaning of the word and you will be prompted to select the word, then a sentence will be given and you will be required to fill in the blank by selecting the proper word (just like in the SAT or GRE!) and you may be required to spell the word, when given its meaning. Be careful as these phases are timed! The words you have completed will come up regularly after some time for you to review them and not forget them. Once you reach a high enough streak of correct answers, or you attain a high performance with a word, that word will be "mastered". Mastered words will not appear as frequent as other words for review. The sessions end by a matching game of all words studied in the session.
In the word list you can see the list of words available in your app. The words are grouped alphabetically for easy access. You can select a word to see the details for that word. If you long-click a word you can see the options you have for that word such as: the history of that word (how many times you have studied it, your current performance), or you can choose to set the word as "mastered" or "known". "Known" words will never come up in learning sessions, unless you "prioritize" them. "Prioritization" allows you to choose the words that you want to study in the next sessions! By pressing the menu button on your device and selecting "Multiple Words", you can select and handle many words at once. You can also deprioritize words or change their orders as well after you have prioritized them!
The flash cards allow you to study words one by one. You can study words that have already appeared in the learning sessions or all words.

The entire SAT wordlist is selected and defined with usage examples by Magoosh’s expert SAT tutors, led by Chris Lele. Review that really sticks
Academic research has found that memories are formed by repeated exposure to new information, so Magoosh’s flashcard app uses a spaced repetition system. Words you are learning will reappear frequently (occurring less frequently the better you know them) and words you already know won’t be repeated. Our SAT word list is also kept to only 350 words so that you don't waste time learning unimportant words.
“I really like the way the words appear and the simple interface to show progress of the user. You guys have put good use of algorithms so one comes out learning the words well. The best flashcard app to date.” - Arif
“Absolutely awesome. This is an excellent way to significantly improve vocabulary in a short amount of time. I learned 100 new words while waiting for my flight at the airport. Good job Magoosh!” - Tameka
