About this app

What's down in your area? Check ESP.

Whole street dark? Water off again? Wifi down? ESP shows live power outages, water outages and internet outages in your suburb, reported by the neighbours living through them. Then you can talk to them about it.

Free, made in South Africa, and used by millions.

IS IT JUST ME?
Open ESP and know in seconds. Every area you follow shows the live status of electricity, water and internet, built from reports by people in your area.
- Check in with one tap: "Mine's off" or "I have power"
- Watch the outage on a 24-hour chart of off and on reports
- Read a short summary of what's going on while it lasts
- See the moment the power, water or fibre starts coming back on
Your reports help everyone nearby. The more neighbours check in, the clearer the picture for the whole suburb.

TALK TO YOUR AREA
Every area has its own community chats for power, water, internet and Ask my street. Post a photo of the burst pipe, ask who else heard the bang, share what the municipality said, find a plumber, return a lost dog.
- Message people near you. They get a request first and decide whether to chat
- Add a profile photo so the neighbours know who's who
- Sign in with WhatsApp, Google or email
- Report spam or abuse, and block anyone you'd rather not hear from

STILL THE LOADSHEDDING APP
Nobody wants it back. If load shedding returns, ESP is ready, just like it has been since 2015.
- Loadshedding schedules for your actual suburb, not a block number
- Eskom and municipal schedules, with every stage at a glance
- The famous 55-minute heads-up, so the kettle's on in time
- Home, work, school and the folks, all in one list

WEATHER FOR YOUR STREET
Current conditions, the next 24 hours of temperature, rain and wind, a 14-day outlook and weather warnings for every area you follow. Storm coming? You'll know before the washing gets wet.

ALERTS ON YOUR TERMS
Choose which chats send you notifications and for how long: 8 hours, 24 hours or always. Mute the noisy ones, keep the ones that matter. Loadshedding reminders come 15 or 55 minutes before, your choice.

HOME SCREEN WIDGET
See your main area's status and next scheduled outage without opening the app. Included with ESP Supporter.

ESP SUPPORTER
ESP is free. Become a Supporter to remove ads, add the home screen widget and get a supporter badge in chat.

WHERE ESP WORKS
All of South Africa, suburb by suburb. Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein and the towns in between. Search your suburb, save it, and you're set.

FOR BUSINESSES
Building something? The ESP Business API puts the same outage, status and schedule data in your own product.

Ratings and reviews

If you're living or traveling in South Africa, this app is a must. I operate a remote business that requires wifi and meetings overseas, so it's critical to plan for load shedding. This app makes that easy. The user interface is intuitive, and it's easy to find the information you need. You can follow multiple areas at once to coordinate around load shedding, which is really nice. This app makes checking load shedding like checking the weather.

This app is a useful tool when we are dealing with loadshedding. It's the first thing I check on my phone in the morning to plan my day. I write on a tile in my kitchen with a non permanent koki pen my schedule for the next 2 days, and it prevents having to keep checking the app on my phone. I set my reminder to 55 mins, and this works for me, especially when there are numerous slots in a day. Makes a challenging situation easier to manage

Every update from the community about what's up in the township. There is nothing more to say. This app is a life saver. Well done. Maybe a data free feature (no data, no problem) may be appreciative.
