Many people generously offered to donate to Kanji Tree, but when I tried adding an in-app-purchase to allow them to do so, the install rate fell off a cliff.

Therefore, I'm releasing this separate paid version, mainly so people can donate towards the development of Kanji Tree, if they want to.

In return, I've added a few bonus features which people have been asking for, but which I've been reluctant to add to the regular version for various reasons. I want to keep the regular one as slim and fast as possible, so it works well even on the oldest of phones.

I'll be adding more features in future, such as user-specified fonts.

Ratings and reviews

Exceptional app for learning readings and basic recognition, probably the best. I don't think it has the right idea for teaching writing though - there should be an option for it to guide you through each kanji and immediately ask you to reproduce it. Currently, if you get the stroke order wrong (which will happen EVERY time if you're a beginner and using this app to learn), it shows you the right order very quickly and then immediately moves on to another kanji, and by the time you get to try it again, you've completely forgotten how to write it. Somewhat nitpicky given how fantastic the other features of this app are, but I feel that the writing section is very ineffective because of this one reason. Absolutely would recommend for an learner of kanji. It is so good it's essential.

Tried to persevere with this but it's just too buggy and counter intuitive to be useful. It takes ages to set up user lists manually and then frequently you'll find all the words have gone to another list because the wrong box was ticked in the previous screen. Sometimes you can't input anything. Sometimes when you edit the title of a list it will hang in your screen until you restart the app. There's no way to alter the strictness of reviews or set it to manual. Etc etc

A really good app for kanji study. However, I got the pro version for the 'custom user lists' function which I expected to be the ability to create kanji lists to match the lessons in my kanji books. It turns out that this functionality is actually just the ability to flag particular kanji and have a list of those. Useful if that's what you're after, but not what I was expecting to get, so I'm sticking with the free version.
