Could be more useful This app does not have the option of downloading hot spots "before" you travel to your destination. I tried. When we arrived, you had to know where a hot spot was in order to he able to use the app to find hot spots. Kind of defeats the point in having a "finder" app. I will be uninstalling this very limited capability app.
Didn't do what it was suppose to do. In Thailand .@truewifi is all over the place, and is suppose to be included as part of the AT&T global plan. Sure it connects to the hotspots, but after 2 weeks of trying to figure out how you are suppose to login I quit trying. It appears the hot spot just wants you to buy their local plan. Seems like a huge waste of time and money, I am interested in how much data plan was wasted on updating hotspots which seemed to only work on cell data coverage and not hotel WiFi. Someplace here there is an EPICFAIL
Update is worse than original I'm connected to free Wi-Fi in my hotel (not an AT&T hotspot) and since the so-called update, it's stuck on downloading the latest list. Nothing at all on map. I paid for the highest-value package before traveling and I really wasted my money trying to use this app. I think AT&T purposely wants to make it hard to find hotspots so you'll have to use data instead.
Can't give below one star Uggghhh, what a P.O.S.! I'm using a Samsung S4 and it captures the entire wi-fi looking for its own non-existing wi-fi signal. Oh, and drains the battery at the same time. Terrible response time for the entire system when this is running. AND even when connected to your own wi-fi the speed is terrible because this app is stiff messing things up.
Don't waste your money for the international plan and app combo Get an international SIM card when you reach your destination. In Thailand they ran about $14usd and came with unlimited data for a 10 day period. My wife and I learned of this on our way home while speaking to a British couple who took full advantage of it. Meanwhile, AT&T is charging us an insane amount of $ for my 200MB data overage. Don't think twice. Hold off and get an international, "burner" SIM card and save yourself the time and money. People hate this app for a very good reason.
Since the 'update' my battery consumption increased dramatically. I went into the Battery option within the OS and it said 14% of my battery consumption was from this app. Mind you I was not roaming at all or international. I had not even loaded the app. It was loaded on boot and running in the background. I went into the app and turned off the search for wifi and consumption dropped back to normal. Downside is now when I go international I now have to go and enable the wifi search and then also have to live with degraded power consumption. This upgrade was a real downgrade on an already marginal app.
- Change the name from “AT&T Passport” to “AT&T Global Wi-Fi”
- Expanded to display additional hotspots on the map
- Improved hotspot search
- Minor bug fixes, improving performance and stability
- Text and layout changes to the status screen
