Rubbish app Surely Cambridge Audio can afford to pay some techy to create a better app? As others have said it's intermittent, it doesn't work at all on my new android phone. It works the best with my ancient ipod touch. By the time it moves between stations or to find the wifi, I could make a cup of tea and drink it. I was convinced to choose this as an alternative to Sonos or Bose. Hmmm
1 star is far too generous The app is complete garbage. Hang your heads in shame Cambridge Audio. This is the first ever of your products that I've bought and your crummy hopeless app means I won't be looking at your brand next time. The app is at best basic, it doesn't do much and yet it almost never works! Just how on earth did you make such a pigs ear of it? As others have stated, the speaker is great but the app rarely works and really takes a lot away from the speaker.
It works usually. You need this app to get the most from the minx air speaker, so it is disappointing that it doesn't work well. Usually when I try to connect it doesn't find the speaker, but if you then select 'change device' you can see and select the speaker. But there have been many times when I haven't been able to connect at all and I have spent a lot of time trying different ways to get the app working. There is a rumoured upgrade to the app for 2015 - let's hope for the best, as I love the speaker.
Shockingly bad Whilst the Minx Air 100 is outstanding, this app is truly appalling. It works very intermittently usually only after clearing all data and trying to connect multiple times. It is such a shame that Cambridge Audio have not been able to make this better. It is also a shame that they haven't produced a web-based interface for setting radio channels etc. I think they could (and really should) do much better if they want genuinely to compete with the bigger players in this market.
Annoying Presets get hopelessly confused between the app and the hardware buttons. (Sometimes some presets get wiped in the app. Sometimes presets in the app that haven't been wiped no longer work in the app but the hardware buttons still work). Sometimes station search just hangs. Sometimes locations don't load for browsing. On further testing it seems that most problems in my case were caused by either the app, speaker or combination thereof reacting badly to a particular preset (If it helps your own testing one was "Lugna favoriter" in Sweden). When the app hits a dodgy preset all remaining presets are not displayed or old/default presets are displayed. It is also this that affects the search/browse. So the app is struggling with something behind the scenes but there is no error message to say that. Restarting/reinstalling the app doesn't get rid of the problem. I can only fix this by resetting the speaker (so could the speaker firmware also be partly at fault?). Finally, given how fragile the presets are it is annoying that with a long press you can change a preset to the now playing station. As it is now I must keep the app hidden from my family so that nobody changes anything!
What a shame! After initially being blown away by the sound quality of my Minx Air 200, this appauling app left a rather bitter taste in my mouth. Come on Cambridge, a useable user interface with this product would be nice! £350 worth of fantastic speaker controlled by an app that continuously crashes, loses contact with the Minx, and is intermittently laggy (volume response is annoying) at the best of times! A 5* product let down by a 0* app.
