About this app

Having trouble with Chinese tones?
Can you pronounce words using the correct tone?
Are you able to tell apart similar sounds?
Do you know when to use which tone?

Many people think that Chinese is an impossibly complex tonal language to master — but that's before they've tried Ka!

Ka is a fun, fast-paced flashcards game that introduces you to the range of different sounds that make up the Chinese language and gives you plenty of listening and pronunciation practice via quick, snappy drills.

With Ka, you'll quickly learn to recognize and tell the difference between different syllables in Mandarin Chinese. By swiping and tapping away in this addictive card-based game, you're drilling your way to Chinese fluency.

You'll stop making embarrassing mistakes like confusing mā (mother) for mǎ (horse) and shāng hài (hurt) for shàng hǎi (Shanghai)!

Learning Chinese tones is hard without a teacher. I like that this app gamifies it. I can already hear tones better. The app tests speaking once in a while and grades you on consonants, vowels, and tones, which I LOVE. No other app does that. But you rarely speak. I wish I could choose to drill just speaking. I also wish I could turn off pinyin. I want to be able to say and hear the words/tones correctly from listening and seeing the characters, without relying on pinyin. Overall, A+!

Best tone trainer I’ve found. When I started studying Chinese a while ago, I was tripped up by tones. Tried to ignore them but realized I would never be able to communicate if I didn’t properly understand tones. I’m very glad I found this app. After just a few days of use, I find the whole concept really starting to click in my brain. I can hear the difference between tones much more clearly now. This app has now become part of my daily study routine and the best part, it is super fun to use!

At the beginning I was really bad at distinguishing between tones, but after almost a year I can pick up on subtle differences with a high degree of accuracy. I use premium which is relatively cheap and I really like the different designs used for each flashcard. Take it from me, you will see results with consistent practice. To make it even better, it would be great to be able to buy avatars with the game points on Android, but otherwise it's really good.
