Aristophanes, son of Philip by the municipality Kydathinaion, was an Athenian satirist poet of the fifth century (ca. 445-386 BC). Aristophanes is, along with Efpoli and Cratinus, one of the most important representatives of the period of the ancient Athenian comedy described as "ancient comedy" and the only one whose works survive intact. In the 5th century BC, wrote 46 comedies. Eleven of these have survived intact, and delivered 924 abstracts.
