A Festa da Istoria recréase ano tras ano dende 1989 cando a Escola Obradoiro de Santo André decidiu rescatar unha vella celebración que antecedía ás festas maiores da Virxe do Portal.

Aquela celebración, denominada Pantomima da Istoria segundo os eruditos locais Leopoldo Meruéndano e Samuel Eiján, representaba “un feito da historia do pobo hebreo” (Meruéndano) ou “un feito histórico elixido de antemán consistente polo xeral nunha batalla entre unhas ou outras tropas” (S. Eiján).

Recuperala foi un esforzo do pobo, e o pobo a sigue representando todos os anos, contando para elo con máis de cincocentos voluntarios agrupados dende a desaparición da Escola Taller de Santo André nunha organización veciñal dende o ano 1991, que pasou a denominarse Coordinadora da Festa da Istoria, legalmente constituída como Asociación no ano 1996, para constituír a Fundación Festa da Istoria no ano 1998.

Este esforzo anual, non se queda só representado no último sábado de agosto, senón que durante todo o ano diferentes actividades son levadas a cabo pola organización en cursos, concursos, obradoiros, presentacións, etc., posibilitando que durante todo o ano o evento cultural teña vida e este presente entre nós.

Son varios os recoñecementos por este evento festivo: en 1997 é declarada de Interese Turístico Nacional polo Goberno Central e o premio do Canal da Historia no ano 2000. Membro fundador da Federación Española de Festas e Recreacións Históricas, pertencendo na actualidade tamén á Federación Europea de Festas Históricas.

Un marco que lexitima o traballo da veciñanza, proporcionando o estímulo necesario para continuar o noso labor.

Son varios los reconocimientos por este evento festivo: en 1997 es declarada de Interés Turístico Nacional por el Gobierno Central y el premio del Canal de Historia en el año 2000.
