I'm in a WiFi dead spot and my phone had attempted to turn on my WiFi ten times in the last day. I can't use the internet because when I do, it thinks trying to connect to a spotty open connection is better. I manually turned off WiFi for a reason...so let me keep it off. This could be a legitimate safety issue if I was relying on cell data.
Republic Wireless is really amazing. Like all tech and app companies, there are bumps in the road at times, but they do a good job of fixing issues. The value I get is incredible compared to the big names out there. I recommend Republic to all my friends. It's a perfect fit for what I need.
Most affordable plans out there for those who live in a home/area with WiFi access. I've never even become frustrated with any hiccups because the price is just too good to be true. I pay approx. $14/month for 1G and have wifi at home and at work. I use GPS several times a month.
Fantastic app for managing Republic Wireless's excellent service. The ability to white/black list apps so that they can or can't have access to cell internet is awesome and allows frugal users to save that precious data. I also like seeing the metrics for my usage by date and by app... really lets me hone in on when and where I'm spending my monthly allotted data. And of course, there's the warning about my continued data usage habits resulting in me exceeding my data allotment, that keeps me in check almost every month. And, if I do happen to go over my monthly allotment, it's very easy to purchase more data on the fly, directly from the app. I imagine the average Republic Wireless user to be more price conscious as that's a big draw to their offering, and the features I describe above all play into that money saving mindset. The tools in the app are easy to use and effective... And again, with Republic Wireless you don't feel like they're trying to hide costs or dupe you into giving them more money. Hope they continue to impress for a long time!
Great concept, but not so great execution. Constantly looking for Wi-Fi signal, disabling cellular service. This can be a major problem, as I experienced recently bringing my wife to the hospital. The maps would not load, and I got lost. My wife nearly gave birth in the car. My scenario is rare, indeed, but I'd like to recommend an "emergency mode," one that floods data to the phone for forty five minutes to aid in cases like ours. I'd gladly pay an added fee to enable this feature. Also, RW is phasing out Beta member benefits by not allowing upgrades without increasing the cost of the plan.
I did this update and now my phone doesn't work. I did a factory reset and recovery and it still didn't the fix the issue with my start up menu. This update broke a perfectly good phone and I am now forced into purchasing a new one due to forced obsolescence.
