Want to know about the building is that you see from the train window, or something about the places you are passing through? Want to entertain and educate your children while they travel? The AboutMyJourney app is designed just for that.
Select your train route, download the route's data file, then sit back and enjoy the view. The app tracks your location using GPS, while you can use your device for other things. Then, as you approach something interesting, a notification appears telling you that it is coming up and inviting you to read about it.
To alert you, the app uses what is known as a full screen notification (actually just a bar at the top), which you can dismiss or tap for more information. You will need to give permission for this when you first use the app.
Otherwise, there are no annoying pop-ups or messages. The app stops automatically an hour after the last place that it found, or you can stop it yourself at any time, so it does not run GPS when you no longer need it
The app is free, there is no advertising, and it does not gather any information about you.

What’s new
The app is designed to alert UK trains passengers to things they can see from the window.
