Very useful We are half way through a three week visit to Panama, and rely on this app more every day. It is very simple to filter search results to find likely candidates of totally unknown species. The call recordings help a lot too. The app is worth twice what we paid for it, and we are recommending it to other birders we meet.
As noted in the description, this app covers most but not all of Panama's almost 1000 bird species. Good audio recordings and adequate-to-good photos are included for most species, but some entries currently have only one or the other, and a few lack both. Excellent as a study tool, but you'll want a field guide as well if your plan is to attempt to identify every bird you encounter. Some nice features are the Similar Species comparison button, the filtering tools, and the inclusion in the written accounts of which type of habitat (humid vs. dry, highland vs. lowland, etc.) and which level (canopy, mid-level, ground, etc.) the species can be expected to be found in. The app isn't currently as sophisticated or complete as birding apps available for North America, Europe or Australia, but it is also much cheaper.
