Bitdefender Carrier IQ Finder reveals the presence of the Carrier IQ mobile network diagnostic tool
Earlier this week, independent developers identified a software package from Carrier IQ shipped within a number of Android-based mobile devices. This piece of software was apparently designed to provide metrics to help mobile carriers improve their services, but in some circumstances, the software is not optional and in many cases the users don't know it's there, tracking all interactions with their mobile phone.
Designed to help mobile carriers solve customer-support and infrastructure issues, the application has been discovered to systematically syphon out location data, keystrokes and other aspects of e-mail and SMS conversations.
As Bitdefender values users’ privacy and the right to informed consent, we have developed Bitdefender Carrier IQ, a low-footprint detector that can reveal the presence of the Carrier IQ package on the personal device and, if found, whether it has been enabled by the carrier.
The Bitdefender Carrier IQ finder is merely a diagnostic tool that prompts the user about the presence or absence of the Carrier IQ package. The package is deeply buried in the device firmware, so it can be uninstalled only through special privileges on the smartphone.
Please note that the Bitdefender Carrier IQ finder does not substitute for a mobile antivirus and consequently, will not detect malware. For a fully featured security solution, please install Bitdefender Mobile Security (available on Android Market).

What's the point? It claims to identify that you have Carrier IQ, but does nothing to remove/stop/uninstall it. So, what's the point? Oh, I see, at the bottom of the screen it directs you to buy their mobile security app. Of course, that's the point!

6-4-14,CIQis@ TmobileBrandPhones Who says tmo customer service say their network removed it? Somebody confused or lies avoiding to reference information. Two apps are detecting ciq on my t-mobile brand phone.

Your descriptions of the processes were lacking in clarity, as well as the recommended next steps. Otherwise, seems great thusfar!

CIQ found on Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch AND CIQ found on Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch (Sprint) AND HTC EVO 3D AND HTC EVO 4G by this App AND Voodoo Carrier IQ detector App AND Lookouts CIQ Detector App AND CarrierIQ Spy App. What are the odds that they could ALL be wrong? Honestly, I hope that Sprint and every other Carrier in violation gets burned out of existence over this undisclosed privacy invasion. I know "I'M" going to burn them up.

'...And, if found, whether it has been enabled by the carrier.' All this does is pop up and claim it already scanned. The options don't expand. No other function. Try Lookout's Carrier IQ. At least they let you email them your system info forbidden research and help prevent phones from having this spyware in the future.
Huh? Two other apps check positive, this and another check negative. So who the heck knows.
Excellent My DROIDX (on Verizon) is clean. Finally a developer that gets it. NO permissions and a super tiny file. Way to go!
Evo 4G, and yes, Carrier IQ found. Program installs and run all kinds of quick.
Great news. Does what it says, HTC desire HD virgin mobile UK. Clean :)
Assume its OK! Well, it says I'm clean; but given the guy who said it gave false info ... what other apps double check &/or, what rom is he using?
Quick and easy. Does as advertised Found on Motorola ATRIX 2. Now I hope AT&T can use information to figure out why battery drains so fast in comparison to iPhone 4 that I had previous
Virgin Mobile (Sprint), clean. Optimus V. Does the job, and looks pretty in the process.
Works fine. Carrier IQ not found on Verizon Droid Charge. Just checkin. ;)
