Exciting idea, extremely disappointing selection Their library of eligible books appears to be mostly- honestly, mostly kids books. I tried scanning a few, fairly popular "big boy" books but none showed up. Love this idea and will be keeping an out as they hopefully signup new publishers.
Why do I need to own it first? I thought this would be like going to the bookstore, snapping a photo of the cover or spines of the book(s) I want to read, and getting the ebook version instead of the hard copy. My bookshelf is full as it is. Why do I need an ebook of a hardcopy that I already have?! The author is still getting money if I buy the ebook version instead! And I'm most certainly not defacing the copyright page of the books I already own!! Whomever came up with this idea has no respect for books! UNINSTALLING IMMEDIATELY!
You want me to what? So, in order to get the ebook of a book I can just read as is, you want me to deface it by writing crap all over the copyright page? No thanks, an ebook isn't worth that. NO ONE SHOULD WRITE INSIDE A BOOK EXCEPT THE AUTHOR THEMSELVES.
Ugh I took "shelfies" of over 200 popular books and they didn't have a single one of them. Don't waste your time.
I've been pretty happy with this app so far. It does a decent job of recognizing things. I was happy that Tor joined recently and have been getting some of my favorites. As far as shelfie accuracy, as with any photography, good lighting makes a big difference. Also, if you know a book is supported but hasn't been recognized, you can try claiming it. A couple times this worked for me. The search function could be a bit more friendly. I have to enter the exact author name, which is a bit frustrating.
Tsk tsk I've tried numerous times (20+) to get ONE book before moving on to another one and it never recognizes the book, even in great lighting and no glare. Horribly dissapointed, and yes, these are the same books from my shelfie that they recognized and had.
