About this app

Be there for the community when it matters and help spontaneously.
With the HILF SPONTAN volunteer app, we want to make it easier to coordinate your offer of help based on your skills, preferences, and availability through digital matching in the app, thus supporting missions more quickly. The app was launched by the German Red Cross in 2023, and Red Cross associations from other regions have since joined.
As part of HILF SPONTAN, you are first and foremost a valuable part of our large community of helpers. When a disaster threatens or occurs, every minute and every helping hand counts – and in the event of a disaster, that hand could be yours too. But the app offers you much more: You can also provide support outside of disasters and as part of online assistance. If you wish, the app also handles warnings for official severe weather reports.
The app has three main features for different scenarios and needs:
"Prepare"
The HILF-SPONTAN app is your personal preparedness assistant, helping you be prepared for any eventuality: How much food should I always have in my house? What should I do in the event of a severe weather warning? And why is it important to save emergency contacts? Take the test and check how crisis-ready you are!
"Warn"
Using the app, you can set up official weather and disaster warnings for various locations and your current location. You determine the locations for which you receive warnings: Would you like to be warned while on vacation if a severe weather threatens your home? No problem with the HILF-SPONTAN app!
"Help"
Using the app, you can offer your help in various ways: As a disaster relief worker, you can actively support in the event of a disaster. Without obligation and only in the way that suits you best. In the app, we alert you to emergencies and provide you with the necessary information. Even without a disaster alert, help may be needed. For example, during the coronavirus pandemic or in the context of refugee assistance. As an online volunteer, you can send us photos of your surroundings during a disaster so we can better assess the situation.
