Tribe is a multisite church plant with worship services in Berkeley near the UC Berkeley campus and in the Eastlake/San Antonio area of East Oakland. We are starting three new sites in North Oakland/Temescal, San Diego California, and Phoenix Arizona, as well as starting community service work in Japan. As we build, we are focusing on community building/organizing, getting involved in existing work/partnerships, economic development/jobs, and youth.
The vision of Tribe is to bring people together by building a vibrant, multi-layered, transformational communities of faith.
We are working through the challenging and stimulating process of building healthy faith communities. So again, welcome(!) and if you're interested in partnering up, we'd love to see about the possibilities. Right now, we're a mixed group of people, with a call, vision, leadership, and enough resources to put in work. We're praying that more might be sent our way so we can get on this work together and take it to the next level. In the meantime, we're waiting patiently, putting in work, and enjoying each other in the process.
We think the essential issue of the Christian faith is simply Jesus’ own question, “But who do you say that I am?” We believe that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God. We feel we share a spiritual kinship with all who believe in Him, whatever their views on other subjects. We also believe that when we come to encounter Him and trust in Him and love Him, He begins to create new life in us, and over time, He Himself changes our views on matters which He considers important. We also believe that the Christian Scriptures – the gospels about Jesus, and the rest of the Old and New Testaments – are revelation from God, and that they are unequivocally true and reliable. We think they give us all we need to know concerning God and concerning what God wants us to do and to be.
