When your master's body washes up in the Arno river, you must take over his Maria Novella workshop—the designs, the paintings, the marvelous machines and inventions, and most importantly, his book of spells, written in various ciphers and magical invisible inks. You have inherited a roster of dangerous clients who are losing patience, and two rival apprentices who could prove allies or even lovers, if they don't turn on you to wrest the workshop from your hands.

Can you use your skills in the arts or sciences to gain allies and buy time? Are you quick enough with a blade to keep yourself safe in the streets? Are you clever enough to decode the master's instructions to build a terrible new machine, and are you ruthless enough to sell it to the highest bidder? Or will you work together with your fellow apprentices to build the machine in secret and use it to bring stability to the city, and to all of Italy?

Story captured my interest but stats mgmt hinder fun. There were too many stats to pay attention to. I found myself in scenario where a situation needs 2 or more different stats to align and my character meets only 1 or 2 requirements and none of the other choices can work either because of the same reasons. It ends up being annoying to keep track all these choices and scenarios to get what you want. It almost as if you cant be what you want without being penalized. Buyer beware!

A good read indeed. Some bugs in the choicescripts are made, which would really annoy people from completely enjoying it. If I remember correctly some paths are completely inaccessible like the choice to stay at the workshop or leave the city. But i enjoyed it thoroughly, partly because I fixed the mistakes in choicescript to enjoy those routes and choices. Sorry for messing with your choicescript code though but it was completely for personal use.

I actually purchased this book. You are an apprentice in a shop during the age of enlightenment. Your master dies and now it is up to you to try to run the shop. This story was interesting and well written. There were so many characters in game it was hard to keep track of them all. This strikes me as a period piece staged during the renaissance. Lots of characters in this that are actually real life people of history. Its a decent read even thought the plot can sometimes be a bit dry.
